Last Night's Stewart & Colbert - Discouraged
Last night Colbert had on Michael Moore. I've heard the stats before about the top 1%...but to re frame it by saying 400 people versus 150 MILLION brought it into perspective for me.

Couple that with Stewart's bit on Obama talking out both sides of his mouth with regard to GE and it was just like a one-two punch for me.

THEN....not long ago on my local news, they were at an Elementary school and asked some of the children what they wanted to be when they grew up.......I didn't hear teacher, nurse, doctor, fireman.....Nope. One little boy said he wanted to be a 'wealthy business man'.

I just feel like my spirit is broken. Any advice? Please, no harsh comments...

Thanks.

1. In regards to the school children
They only take a select answer that fits in with what they want to portray. (the same with Howard Stern & Jay Leno when they interview people on the street)

My daughter is in third grade, and I've consistently seen the kids in her classes say that they want to be things like doctors, veterinarians and dentists (especially among the girls) over the years. Sometimes the boys are less realistic (baseball player/athlete), but boys were the same when I was a kid, and I suspect it was similar for boys when my dad was a kid. However, I bet girls were different in his day (teacher, nurse, mother were probably a lot more common in his era, and mine)

2. GE has made the following committment: When he creates
jobs overseas, he will either bring back to this country
jobs from overseas or will also start a company here.
Moved a company from VA, but opened up a plant in TENN.

Immelt is one CEO who has openly admitted a mistake a
was made when Congress and Business decided to make this
country a service country. He has stated the American
economy cannot be sustained by a Service Eeconomy. We
need at least 13% mfg base.

It is easy to join Fox and slam GE and Obama. IMO,
there is more to the story.

Anyway, I can feel for you when I read the post.

4. 100 slice pizza
The other night, Bill Maher explained wealth disparity this way...

"Say 100 Americans get together and order a 100 slice pizza. The pizza arrives and the first guy takes 80 slices."

And then Maher furthers the analogy with how the rich are unwilling to budge by saying...

"And if someone suggests 'why don't you just take 79 slices,' that's SOCIALISM!"
