"We'll just let them rob the house, then."

Imagine that you're looking out your window and you notice that someone you don't recognize has broken in to your neighbor's house - and is carrying out valuables. What do you do? Call 9-1-1, of course.

But then, the dispatcher tells you that there's no deputy available to respond to the call.

Time and again, that's the situation in Columbia County, Oregon. Listen to this short 9-1-1 tape: http://www.blueoregon.com/2011/03/columbia-county-911/

Time and again, "No deputy available" has been the response to folks calling 9-1-1 in rural Columbia County. You see, Columbia County only has seven deputies to patrol the entire 657 square miles of unincorporated Columbia County.

2. In Republic world
this is what they have always wanted. Privatize everything, drown government in a bathtub and make the public peons pay for everything that they now have paid through their taxes. No pay, no way. You want police protection, fire protection, want your streets plowed in the winter, guess again. Clean air, clean water, safe working environments, education, fa-get about it. Have I told you today how much I hate these fuckers.

8. Ok then, quiz time. Keeping taxes so low that the police force and other services are
non-functional is a:

a. Democratic Party Policy
b. Republican Party Policy

I'll go with "b" and stand by my statement of this being the "end result of Republican Politics."

16. Because did not approve increasing taxes the last two times it was on the ballot
The county most recently asked voters to approve a sheriff's levy in November 2006. Voters shot down a levy for 39 cents per $1,000 assessed property value that would have funded 10 patrol deputies and five other staff. The measure failed in 38 of 54 precincts, including several in rural areas not covered by city police departments.

Voters approved a similar levy in May 2005, but voter turnout fell short of the 50 percent turnout needed to validate the election.

the densely populated areas here. It just rings and rings.

18. Tell 911 to take their time because you shot the thieves
They'll show up pretty quickly. If they claim you lied to them, show them the camera that you shot them with :-)
