2. But drug testing for people on gov't assistance is a very real issue here in Florida.
A bill has passed out of Senate committee, and is expected to pass both houses. It is supported by the governor. I haven't seen all the arguing on DU that you're talking about, so I don't know whether it's all Kentucky-centric, but we actually face mandatory drug tests for people on state assistance here in Florida, so it is an issue worth discussing.

4. Who's arguing about dams?

Anyhoo, the proposal is still very much alive and well in the state that gave us Rand Paul. :eyes:

5. Who said that thread was talking about kentucky? the proposals have been in multiple states
and now you're calling someone a liar because the drug testing proposal that you found on Snopes about Kentucky turns out to be false.

even though most of us were talking about Florida and other states where it's a real proposal.

i have a feeling you know a lot less about this topic than you claim to.

7. *sigh* Here we go again.
The ISSUE is real. The proposed BILLS are real. All Snopes is saying is that the state of Kentucky (ONE state) hasn't YET passed the bill. It's still being considered by their legislature, as is the bill in Missouri. Michigan's similar law DID pass, and has already been stricken down by the federal court system.

And for the record, YOU are the one who first brought up the entire SUBJECT of drug-testing welfare recipients. YOU started that argument right HERE: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=766306&mesg_id=766417

NOBODY MENTIONED DRUG TESTING POOR PEOPLE BEFORE YOU DID. The thread wasn't even really ABOUT welfare until YOU came TROLLING with your privileged, snotty, condescending, IGNORANT commentary. If anybody made up "Bullshit", it was YOU.

Is being wrong so much fun that you just INSIST on doing it again and again and again and again? Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough yet?

:banghead:

12. It could become a big deal...
...in the future. If you eat too many poppy seed bagels, you could have false positive. And a positive, false or not, can be used to deny you employment in the future, by employers who have not drug-tested you themselves. There was a court case about it recently, though I can't remember the details, that established that if employer A tests you for drugs and you test positive, then in future, employer B can use that to bar you from employment. It's also a "big deal" for people with disabilities involving severe chronic pain, for whom marijuana is often the only thing that really helps. What people do when they aren't at work is none of their employers' business. And drug addicts need to eat too, so I don't see how basing public assistance tests on drug use would be a good idea. It's a scheme by the right because they think all poor urban African-Americans are all on crack; since they don't think black people deserve public assistance, they think they can limit public assistance to them by drug testing. It is a BIG DEAL.

11. We should drug test everybody
Everyone except the police, politicians, or CEO's. They are off limits for some reason.

14. Snopes is bullshit, then. I have personally read it in local newspapers and have seen state reps
talking about it on TV. Try again, Snopes. The validity buck does not stop with you.

It states quite clearly that they are trying to pass these laws.

So calling it "made up bullshit" is itself made up bullshit.
