Why USA's 2% Tariff to China's 20% on American made goods |
|
In this time of HUGE Federal Deficits and Long Term Unemployment are we allowing a 2% Tariff on Chinese made goods entering the country compared to the 20% tariff China charges on US made goods entering their country.
Wouldn't even a slight increase in the Tariff help promote more Hiring by US Corporations and help reduce the deficit?
With China now becoming the 2nd Largest Exporter of Goods in the World I no longer think the rational of China's 20% to the United States 2% applies any more

1. Often I've wondered what the difference is between the tariff rates |
|
between the US and China. Thanks....obviously, I was too lazy to look it up! Of course, it may be my other 'problem': being over-whelmed and easily distracted with so much news..all.the.time.

2. No need to single China out. |
|
It is clear that all this free trade bullshit is not working out for us. We need to restore the tariff policies that were in effect before the 1980s.

I've been bashed on this board for saying the same thing. It's a vital part of bringing the jobs back to the U.S.

Seek truth and dispel transgressions against it. Challenge the argument and not the person who is making it. Be open to those who honestly confront your views. There is no shame in being wrong, but there is in staying that way.
I will try to heed my own advice in this.

3. We need to raise taxes, close loopholes |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-29-11 05:49 PM by eilen
and when the so-called millionaires and corporate execs and corporations leave in a snit (as they always threaten to) do not allow them back in and charge a 40% tariff on their goods.
Then offer favorable status (no issue with tarrifs so that decreases competition) to business owners, industry heads, innovators etc in the US-- no sales tax on their products if made in the USA and employing Americans, investing in R&D, building their clean rooms to create tech products here. However, they still have to pay their income taxes like everyone else. No H1B but investing in academy or workshops where the people learn on the job in apprenticeship roles.

Because people are getting poorer here every day, and unless we can keep the costs of cheap plastic Chinese shit low, people might notice just how poor they have become.
As long as they can keep piling up debt on their plastic cards when they buy their plastic shit, they go merrily along.
If Chinese goods cost what they SHOULD cost, there might not be such a disparity in cost, and people might just wonder why those products are no longer made here..
$115 for shoes made here @ decent wages for employees $115 for shoes made in China @$0.30 hr
the dilemma:
20% tariff on Chinese shoes means the manufacturer/CEO has to make LESS money or raise the end price to keep raking in mega-dough.

7. if the cost of chinese goods would increase the china would be in deep shit |
|
china can not afford to have any increase in tariffs because their system is based on low wages and exports. if the tariffs were raised china would face a revolution and the communist party will do it`s up most to see this does`t happen

8. Because we don't have an economic system but rather a secular religion. |
|
I'm surprised we have the 2% and I'm sure we make up for it in both activity and perverse anti-American people incentives by many a mile.
We need to push reciprocal trade polices. No more barriers than on imported goods than are put on ours. I'd like to have more flexibility on trade policy than that but dealing straight up would go a long way.
It is a semantics thing really. When you say "fair" a certain percentage of the population gets antsy because they think shenanigans are wired in or some such shit. They like "free" trade out of similar logic.

9. What we need to do.... |
|
...is jack the tariff's to 20%, and then "credit" 18% of it towards our huge national debt, which is predominantly held by China. It would amount to little more than shuffling numbers on paper, but in the long term could eventually begin to lower the actual debt numbers. China holds trillions of dollars worth of American debt, so shaving billions a year off that number would do us some good.
The US spent $413 billion in interest last year on all of its various debts, and interest payments on foreign held debt will eclipse the Pentagon's budget by 2020. Fix THAT, and you fix a LOT of budget problems in this country.

else taking advantage of our idiots in charge. The working Americans, who have continued to increase productivity know this instinctively, spread this around so more know the numbers
