The Seeger song you linked is one of the favorites! :D
12:00 noon every day in the Capitol is a sing along for everyone! Songbooks are handed out - all songs of labor and strength (some with lyrics modified somewhat for Wisconsin). Usually most of the singers form a circle on the ground floor of the Capitol. We "rule-breakers" holding signs on the first floor above have loved joining in on the singing. Today was different:
Today, some people were outside one of the entrances to the Capitol, giving out t-shirts that they had made. The front says, "Freedom of Speech." The back side says, "Rise Up." For the first time, we had more singers on the first floor than there were on the ground floor below. Virtually everyone on the first floor wore one of those shirts for the sing along. It was absolutely beautiful!
Early in the sing along:
A little later, when more people showed up, the t-shirted group expanded, so the circle moved back and joined hands. This is a poor attempt at a panoramic view of the crowd, but hopefully it gives you an idea of the size and spirit of the group. You can see Jeremy, one of leading First Amendment Defenders on his Segway in the foreground of the panoramic pic.
Thanks again for posting the reminder of the fight here in Wisconsin. :hi:
