7. "I defended my doctoral dissertation today!"
....for us high school drop-outs, what exactly does that mean?

12. Oh! Well, I finished up my major research project...
for my PhD, or doctoral degree. Basically, it means I could suffer being in school until the 25th grade ;)

8. Congrats!
I remember feeling like I was floating on a cloud for about a month or so after finishing mine.

Enjoy it!

17. See, I had to get up at the crack o' dawn to teach...
it sort of tempered my feelings of elation. As it gets closer to graduation day, I'll be super excited I'm sure.

9. You defended. But don't you still have to get a pass/fail or something.
Edited on Tue Mar-29-11 09:07 PM by david13
I know all I had to do was pass a 3 1/2 or 4 day test. And then wait like 6 weeks to see the results.
So I shall reserve my remarks until I have further info.
But I will say at least that ordeal is over.

13. Oh, no....
I took qualifying exams before I could start my research and writing. That sucked royally. So, I'm just waiting on graduation day, in a few weeks. I imagine certain disciplines do it differently. In history, the exams come first, then the research, writing, and oral defense.

I've been largely invisible around here as a result of the impending defense.
