Obama not ruling out arming Libyan rebels...
...seriously? A guy that I know is smart enough to know the history of this country is not ruling out arming Libyan rebels? How did that work out in Afghanistan?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12902450

US President Barack Obama has said he does not rule out arming the rebels seeking to overthrow Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

...

Asked by US media if he supported arming the rebels, President Obama said: "I'm not ruling it out but I'm also not ruling it in."

...

French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said at the London conference that France and its partners were prepared to discuss arming the rebels but not without the backing of a new UN Security Council resolution.

"I remind you that this is not what is envisaged by Resolution 1973... so for the moment France has agreed to the strict application of these resolutions," he said.

However, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the conference that although UN sanctions prohibited the delivery of arms to Libya, the ban no longer applied.

"It is our interpretation that 1973 amended or overrode the absolute prohibition on arms to anyone in Libya," she said.

At this point I honestly feel like I'm living in the twilight zone, and I'm sure it's not just the alcohol talking.

1. That's just the next phase. It obviously won't work, so then
it's the final phase "to the shores of Tripoli"

2. The new language allows folks to provide arms to save civilians...
so if the rebels cause a little collateral damage, I guess anyone who wants could provide arms to Gaddhafi.

3. You know, I've been doing humanitarian aid all wrong for YEARS
It never occurred to me to give people weapons and armaments! Here I've been, volunteering time, building stuff, digging wells, donating money, that kind of stuff. I shoulda just gone down to Wal*Mart and bought one of everything off the gun rack.

15. The "rebels" is a guy who lived in Virgina, US, for 20 years, now returned
to Libya with a CIA agenda behind him and recruited a bunch of unhappy unemployed thugs to topple gaddafi

5. The corporate talking TV heads are giddy over it, oh boy arms sales!
It was their talking point on a few propaganda networks. Nothing they like more than sales of anything.

6. They won't know what to do with our arms anyway.
No point.

Honestly it's a choice of doing it ourselves or forgetting it.

9. Don't say that because that's where it's headed.
It's become crystal clear to the people behind this chaotic uprising that the rebels can't do it and they're not going to get reinforcement from the people outside of the Benghazi area.

7. We will need to send advisers to teach them to use those weapons
I'm sure that it will stop there, though.

19. In 15 years: "The U.S. created these terrorists by funding the mujahideen in Libya..."
In related news: the average American has little recollection of what happened even a few years earlier. So the same lies/tropes/memes may be repeated every few years as fresh justification for war.
