Prominent Democrat says Government Shutdown 'Best Thing in the World' for Democrats
Edited on Wed Mar-30-11 12:12 AM by TomCADem
Source: ABC News

For months, Democrats have been accusing Republicans of pushing Congress toward a government shutdown that could be catastrophic for the economy.

But now one prominent Democrat says a government shutdown would be "the best thing in the world" for his party.

"From a partisan point of view, I think it would be the best thing in the world to have a shutdown," Sen. Howard Dean said Tuesday at a National Journal Insider Conference's panel.

That's because, Dean said, Republicans would be blamed for it.

WARNING!!! THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE CORPORATE MEDIA NARRATIVE!

Wow, if ABC News says that Howard Dean is a Senator who is controlling Democratic congressional strategy, then it must be true! Of course, if Sarah Palin, Michelle Malkin, etc. says something extreme like calling for a government shut down, we should pay them no mind, because they are just feeding red meat to their constituents.

But, if Howard Dean seems to favor a shutdown, lets call him a Senator, and then run with the narrative that Democrats are to blame for not agreeing to Republican demands to target the middle class.

I am sure the corporate media will have people on the left and right blaming Democrats and giving Republicans a free pass.

3. Senator Howard Dean? Why not Vice-President Michael Steele?
You have to love how the corporate media invents facts such as making Howard Dean a senator in order to push the idea that Democrats are at fault for a government shut down. Of course, most Americans will not know that Howard Dean is not a Senator, and is a progressive activist who no longer holds a leadership position in the DNC, thus he is merely speaking as a pundit, not on behalf of the Democratic party. Of course, if he was a Republican, the corporate media would dismiss his comments as the mere opinion of a pundit, rather than conferring a false official title on him.

The GOP controlled House has already started planting the memes that the Democrats (Pelosi, Reid, Obama) are responsible for the inevitable shutdown for not being willing to compromise to the ridiculous demands of the tea-baggers. In truth, it's the other way around, but we won't hear about that in the mass media.

5. They remember the public turned against them when they shut the government down on Clinton.
They want to shut it down with impunity.

It would be like a third world IMF bank holiday.

It will be a heaping helping of global shock doctrine when the US defaults on its debt.
It's one thing to be a crook and another to be ignorant. And then to be arrogant about it all is beyond my world view.
I'm beginning to think Japan's radioactive meltdown is actually a mercy killing for us all.

Only if we establish a GITMO on top of the reactors and ship the economic raptors there is there any mercy in the Japan situation.

from the state of PROPAGANDA LAND. Good catch indeed. He's to blame evidently - according to the stated authors of this 5th grade foxnews style hit piece: "JONATHAN KARL AND MATTHEW JAFFE". Seriously, if you don't know Howard Dean is not a senator you have no business writing so called "news". Congrats ABC "News" - you've hit a new low!

I did ask someone who knows him and he will not be running for office again, but he travels across the USA to support progressives as well the people in the UK resisting what is going on there.

Here's a teabagger blog claiming he advocated socialist solutions, as if they found the holy grail of conspiracies, and a lot of other crap:

These people have a lot of time and money, huh? Smell the Koch.

21. Corporate Media Narrative - Blame Democrats. Give Republicans A Free Pass
Look at DU. Even liberals have been conditioned to buy into this narrative. When Boehner or McConnell say something idiotic, there will be some post blaming a Democrat for what they said. I don't think the posts are sock puppets, just folks who are buying into the corporate media narrative of blaming Democrats, and giving Republicans a free pass.

15. Hell, if they can pretend a bill is a law, regardless of a court order,
then they can pretend Howard Dean is a Senator. Why not? They "create their own reality"*, right?

19. And the propaganda machine grinds on.
Any institution with even a shred of journalistic integrity would be fucking ashamed by this. An org should not be able to call itself a NEWS site if it's not even going to pretend to be an exercise in journalism.

all the other people working for the federal government. Many will lose desperately-needed paychecks or be forced to use vacation days for missed work days during the shutdown.
