1. I have mixed feelings about this...
I think it shows responsibility on the part of the protesters to be willing to pay for restoring the lawn, but I also think that the millions of footprints in the mud is an historic monument to the 'boots on the ground' prodemocracy actions that took place.

It seems like we ought to be making a cast of the prints so that they can be memorialized in bronze as a new sidewalk...the people's pathway leading into the capitol.

2. The real cost of replacing grass is about $20 per 1000 square feet. $50/1000 commercial
I have no doubt the projected cost is far greater.

3. Be careful what you ask for
Republicans might want to prosecute people for stealing state mud.
:)

4. From grass to mud in 24 hours - Before and after pics
Here are 2 pictures from mid-March. The first one was taken the morning of the mega-rally on March 9 (before the masses arrived)

By late afternoon it looked like a barnyard - no grass, just MUD

I will make a donation for contributing to the trampling.

5. The DOA estimates the repair cost at $50,000,000

I kid, I kid. But they do seem to be a little estimation-challenged.

Hey, I'll send some $$, even though I stayed on the concrete.

Edited to add: I like the idea of a section of sidewalk that commemorates the protest efforts. Or a statue/wall of some kind.
