Rand Paul Falsely Claims That Public Workers Don’t Contribute To Their Pension And Health Care Plans
All across the country, right wing legislators are taking aim at Main Street Americans by attacking their collective bargaining rights. These lawmakers are stripping public sector unions of their collective bargaining rights and/or slashing their wages, benefits, and retirement funds.

Yesterday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) appeared on Fox Business Network to continue this war on labor rights, using his time on the station to attack unions and claim their pay and benefits are too high. At one point during the interview, the senator began attacking “government unions,” saying they are “going to have to” contribute to their pensions and health care plans, just like Paul has to as a senator, and that Kentuckians back home don’t have any sympathy for government union workers because they pay for their retirements:

3. It would be so nice if we had an opposition party to counter
the GOP's war on public servants, wouldn't it?

7. I make $13/hour and pay $160 a month for medical insurance
just for ME. That does not include dental, eye, scripts, or anything else, which I got at a private non profit agency. If Rick Scott gets his way, I will be paying 5% of my meger salary for my pension and retirement. I paid NOTHING for a pension at the non profit agency. Since I am 62 years old and have only worked for this school district for 4 years, WHAT retirement? To add insult to injury, I will have to pay for random drug tests too?

8. Is there some reason why you *shouldn't* pay a small portion of your salary
toward your pension? As a federal public employee I do, and I also pay commercial rates for my health insurance. Fair is fair.

11. No it's not. A part of my pension is withdrawn from my salary each month. It amounts to about 5

percent of my pay per year. There is no such thing as a 401K in the federal government.

10. It is a 403/401K then, not a pension
As I said, I worked for a non profit agency. I got all this and MORE for free, including a totally free privately run clinic. Not worth it, working for government. They won't even let me OPT OUT of that pension or a retirment plan. Dumb, dumb, dumb when you are ALREADY retirement age. I will be DEAD and buried before I collect any retirement.

12. Fair enough. I was under the impression that you didn't want to pay for any part of your
retirement out of your salary. I understand your problem now.
