How to halve the deficit by doing nothing
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/ezra-klein/post/how-to-halve-the-deficit-by-doing-nothing/2011/03/25/AFXb0RoB_blog.html

Just let the Bush tax cuts expire in 2012, as they’re currently scheduled to do:

(snip)

Even better, because expiration is the legislative status quo, you wouldn’t need to break a filibuster to do it. Quite the opposite, in fact: You’d need to break a filibuster in order to keep it from happening.

(end snip)

Ummm, if we had done that last year....but we had to make deals, I know.

1. They supposed to expire last year.
What's to stop another extension?

2. We Should Only Do This if the 2012 Election is Hopeless
If we know we're going to lose everything in 2012 anyway,
we might as well get in one meaningless gesture of defiance.
It would be meaningless because the victorious teabaggers
would be able to rewrite the tax code however they want
once they got into office.

Conversely, if we don't do something stupid like raise
taxes in an election year, we might just win and win big.
Then perhaps we get to do some rewriting.

3. Didn't these tax cuts...
become the "Obama" tax cuts on 1/1/2011?
