Bank bailout turns a profit

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Don't look now, but the bank bailout is starting to turn a profit.

The Treasury Department announced Wednesday that the money it gave to banks during the financial crisis has been paid back, and then some.

The bank bailout -- part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program -- is now $6 billion in the black, a profit that might ultimately rise to $20 billion, according to the Treasury.

And that's nice. But if you look at the whole program, there are still some trouble spots, and not everyone is happy.

1. Hilarious!
How many $$$trillions??? has the Fed pumped into the banks? Without an audit of the Federal Reserve we may never know.

But the very idea that the bank bailouts are "in the black" and that anyone but some Wall Street or Washington pundits would believe that just shows you that there really are suckers out there.

2. If these bailouts are in the black why is it the deficit
Edited on Wed Mar-30-11 11:15 PM by doc03
hasn't been reduced? Where the hell does the money go? If I am running a yearly deficit of $1000 and I loan out another $500 to someone that would make my deficit $1500. So when they pay me back in 2010 shouldn't that reduce this years deficit to $500?

3. How's the bailout of Freddie, Fannie, and AIG paying back?
Or did the treasury conveniently forget those when calculating their "profit"?
