Guerrilla Protest Idea
Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 12:42 AM by demwing
DUer louslobbs posted a request to boycott products made by the Koch brothers, here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=776287&mesg_id=776287

I have an entertaining idea on how to take that boycott to the next level...(note - I have no idea what the legal ramifications are for this type of behavior, and am suggesting this as a theoretical concept, strictly for entertainment purposes only! Do NOT break the law!)

First, a person could create a website (a free one will work) and on it list a few facts about the politics of the Koch brothers. Add a list of their products and a plea to boycott, and then - most importantly - add a list of products made by the Koch's competitor's. Search the web for coupons for those products, and offer the coupons on your site.

Next, a person could create a TinyURL for that web page.

Then, one could print the TinyURL, along with a short message like "For money saving coupons, check our website!" on self adhesive address labels - as many as can be afforded.

Take the labels into any grocery or dry goods store, and very surreptitiously place them on Koch products, one label per package.

The idea would be that when people buy a roll of Brawny Towels (or any other Koch product, like Dixie Cups), they'll take it home, see the URL, and (as the plan goes) check the website. They'll get educated about the Koch's, grab some coupons, and maybe tell a friend.

Again, I'm not suggesting anyone break any laws. But if something like this really happened, and spread across the country, I think it would be extremely funny, and kind of karmic. What do you think?

1. Interesting idea.
I've already gotten a few family and friends I know to quit buying Quilted Northern toilet paper. A few more bucks denied from Koch pockets.

I have a feeling they are going to really regret getting so involved in right-wing politics. I'm sure the boycotts have already hurt their bottom-line...

5. Avoiding Lycra® and CoolMax® Will Significantly Harder
The Koch empire seems to own the patents for ALL stretchy, breathable fabric!

6. What about Dri-Star?
You gotta get it at Walmart or Target. Having trouble tracking down the manufacturer - anyone know?

3. You plan on tricking poor people with the lure of saving money. Not a good idea.
And for those poor people who do not have access to the internet?, They see the message an feel cheated.

4. Not at all!
First, I specified that somone who wanted to do this should find coupons for competitor's products, and offer them on the website.

How is this cheating?

Second, I clearly stated that this was suggested for entertainment purposes only. Should you want to do this, I suggest you investigate the legality :)
