Possible new Missouri congressional map
http://midwestdemocracyproject.org/blogs/entries/proposed-congressional-map-revealed/

This could put the 4th district into play if enough students in Columbia (liberal college town) were to vote there instead of their home districts Most of the other districts look like safe seats for the current congresscritters.

1. Tell me that the 5 district isn't gerrymandered
What is with the little tail east of Kansas City?

And Northern Missouri gets screwed royally.

3. I think it's to ensure a safe district for Clever
By putting Lees Summit in the 6th District, it also makes it safer for Graves. Northern Missouri lost the most population

2. Naw, Columbia has been isolated.
That was one of the objectives of this redistricting, insuring that Columbia would be offset by enough conservative voters from the SW.

Not to mention the fact that Columbia simply isn't Columbia anymore. Too many recent immigrants over the past twenty years, conservative folks coming in from Springfield and elsewhere. You can see it in recent elections. Yeah, Boone County went for Obama in '08, but it went for Bush in '04. And local politics are quickly becoming dominated by the Chamber of Commerce and other conservative groups.

There is still a large liberal, intellectual population in the town, but they have become members of a large minority, and are no longer the majority they used to be.
