Tea Party Hypocrisy? Some Lawmakers With Tea Party Ties Are on the Government Dole
Which Tea Partiers Are Getting Hundreds of Thousands of Government Dollars?

By JONATHAN KARL and AVERY MILLER
March 31, 2011

The Tea Party swept into the 112th Congress with promises of cutting government spending. But according to a report out today, at least five lawmakers with Tea Party connections have been longtime recipients of federal agricultural subsidies.

"There's nothing too surprising about hypocrisy in Washington," Ken Cook, president of Environmental Working Group, told ABC News. "This particular group, you not only have to look at the hypocrisy but you need to watch your wallet."

While the majority of American farmers receive no government money at all, at least 23 current members of congress or their families have received government money for their farms -- combining for more than $12 million since 1995 according to a new report from the Environmental Working Group.

The biggest recipient was Rep. Stephen Fincher, a Republican from Frog Jump, Tenn. .... more

9. Well, y'see, there was this poll out yesterday, and the teabaggers are around 30% favorability . . .
So now it's OK to pile on. Not before the election, of course . . . .

3. That was a RW shout out to The Boner so that he can bring the Baggers
under control. The Teabaggers have forgotten who bought and paid for them, who made them, who can break them. Just a little reminder to sit down, STFU and do what you are told.

18. So true.
The Republicans brought the Tea Party along for the ride, and now the Teabaggers want to drive the bus.

4. We are farmers and receive absolutely no farm subsidies.
We applied for several but if you don't have a lot of equipment and animals, they wont help you out. There was a program that offered to pay half of the cost to build a barn. It sounded great since we desperately need a barn and currently use our garage as our barn. When we submitted our application the farm extension agent shook his head after reading it. He said we were not qualified because we didn't have 800 head of cattle or 600 head of sheep. If you have that much livestock, why do you need help building a barn?

And yet.....

"While the majority of American farmers receive no government money at all, at least 23 current members of congress or their families have received government money for their farms -- combining for more than $12 million since 1995 according to a new report from the Environmental Working Group.

The biggest recipient was Rep. Stephen Fincher, a Republican from Frog Jump, Tenn.

While the self-described Tea Party patriot lists his occupation as "farmer" and "gospel singer" in the Congressional Directory, he doesn't mention that his family has received more than $3 million in farm subsidies from 1995 to 2009, according to the Environmental Working Group."

Welfare for the Rich, they are nothing but welfare cheats.

5. I grew up on a dairy farm with 10, sometimes 12, cows. Boggles the mind...
...to think of the size herds today.

As to who gets the subsidies? Monster dairy farms, monster sugar-cane farms. The idea that the family farmer is being helped is a hoax.

7. I ran across an online database a few years ago
Searched several people from my hometown including my cousin. I was shocked at what they were getting in subsidies. My cousin was raking in nearly a million from subsidies.

24. Yep. The system is set up to help the farms that don't need it, and the small farmer is ground up
under the heels of the food conglomerates.

Thomas Jefferson is weeping in his grave.

11. So, if these guys are honest about cutting the budget
Then they should be perfectly willing to cut what they are receiving in welfare first and foremost.
