Madison Rally - Saturday April 2 - Be there to support your fellow citizens!!!
To the Streets, People. We need to let America know that we will NOT let the thievery of the Right stand! This is the last weekend before the April 5th election.

Please be there if you can! I'd love to see another crowd like this!!!

1. I think the wind has been taken out of their sails.
Nothing they do seems to matter so I would be very surprised if more than a couple of hundred show up. Hope I am wrong but......

3. lolz
I am happy to say that you seriously misunderestimate the people of WI. DU's interest in the matter may be waning, but not ours.

14. Interest in Wisconsin is NOT waning with me! I'm enjoying every step of the way.
It's got all the ingredients for drama: an evil (but goofy) governor from the planet Idiotes who has plans to destroy the hard-working, good citizens of Wisconsin. Idiotes' leader (as in "take me to your...") is even more evil because he uses his wealth to destroy rather than improve those less fortunate & he is guiding the heartless, peevish governor with every destructive step of the way.

The heroes are the union workers & those who stand with them, particularly the Fab 14, who are fighting for democracy & justice with courage, grit, & anger.

And there are lots of subplots, most provided by the evil FitzHeads. Defiance of law, defiance of a federal judge's court order, an evil legislation-writing organization known as ALEC, & daily general pettiness from power-drunk FitzHeads.

Nope, I'm really into this story -- can't you tell? ;)

15. I know... it's FASCINATING, isn't it?
Did you see that on Tuesday, the SoS (a Democrat whose family has a VERY rich history see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_M._La_Follette,_Sr .) appeared in court represented by the state. It was determined that he needed independent counsel because his interests weren't being met. Walker appointed attorneys who asked to be removed because they didn't want to argue SoS's position. SoS was allowed to use his personal attorney (at his own cost).

They watched a youtube video of the joint committee meeting.... minority leader rocked the house.

VERY interesting stuff here in WI these days.

16. I read about Robert La Follette awhile back, plus the rich history of Wisconsin politics.
I've been so impressed by the solidarity & civic-mindedness of Wisconsinites that I was wondering about your state's history & researched on my own. I'm betting on the union workers to prevail.

I'm hoping that the bill will be stalled with legal motions (& rightfully so, if the legal process still means anything) until those recall elections occur & the Democrats reclaim a majority.

18. Very cool. Yes, I have been bursting with cheesy pride.
I was a broken woman whose soul was crushed in November after our tough loss. The events that have unfolded this year have renewed my spirit and I, too, think that the people of WI *will* win this battle. It won't be quick, it won't be easy - but that is actually a good thing because we will fight to keep what we fight to win.

I think next Tuesday's election will either be a crushing blow to the Republicans and confirm my opinion that the Republican party will not control this state again in my lifetime or crush my soul yet again. I remain optimistic. :)

19. A question...
You know the people in Wisconsin firsthand. Do you have any sense deep down that November's election might have been a result of vote tampering? Now, after learning about Wisconsin, I can't believe Russ Feingold lost his senate seat.

The wave has crested now and these fuckers are crashing.

6. MORE RALLIES! Sunday 4/3 and Monday 4/4 (Jesse Jackson here on Monday)
Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 09:18 AM by eowyn_of_rohan
Sunday, April 3 - March on the Capitol and mass in the rotunda for an event titled "Been to the Mountaintop." Inside the Capitol they will conduct a mass singing of labor songs, with local unions providing thousands of songbooks.

Monday, April 4 -
National Day of Action. The labor movement picked that day because it was on April 4, 1968, that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, where he had gone to stand with sanitation workers demanding their right to bargain collectively under the auspices of AFSCME, the public employees' union

AFSCME will help lead a Poor People's Campaign march and rally at Madison's City Hall. The Rev. Jesse Jackson will address thousands who gather for a rally at the Capitol, followed by a candlelight vigil expected to fill the grounds surrounding the building well into the night.

Also, on Monday, April 4, there will be Rock the Vote rallies around the state, in preparation for crucial state Supreme Court elections April 5, when labor and its allies hope to elect Assistant Attorney General Joanne Kloppenburg to the state's high court and defeat pro-Walker incumbent David Prosser.

The Rock the Vote rallies are also intended to build support for recall campaigns against Republican state senators. The rallies are planned for Milwaukee, De Pere, Janesville, La Crosse, Sheboygan and numerous other towns and cities.

(on edit - oops! Time flies)
