Propaganda.
Some propaganda is subtle, some is as subtle as a sledgehammer. The line between propaganda and rhetoric can be very thin. Both attempt to persuade the audience.

One woman's propaganda is another woman's shining beacon of truth. We tend to buy into propaganda that feeds our pov.

So how do we avoid legitimizing propaganda? For one thing, if a story can't be sourced, it's likely propaganda. For another, the use of language. Language that demonizes is suspect, as is language that masquerades as fact without the inclusion of such.

I see a fair amount of propaganda posted here as fact. It comes from multiple viewpoints and directions.

4. one doesn't always, but being aware of one's biases
helps as does careful reading/listening and knowledge of propaganda.

6. I think I have a pretty good sense of what is propaganda
but sure, it's hard to be absolutely positive.

9. RT isn't too far behind
It's very similar to PressTV. I'd say Al-Jazeera is the same too on the Israel-Palestine issue, though they are better on other things.
