White House and Democrats continue to cave in on the spending fight, while House Republicans haven’t budged an inch
From NBC's Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, Domenico Montanaro, and Ali Weinberg
March 31, 2011

*** Caving in: If the current Washington fight over spending was a game of chicken, the Obama White House would already be pulled over on the side of the road, as House Republicans continue to barrel down the deserted highway. The fact is, the White House and Senate Democrats keep caving, while House Republicans -- at least publicly -- have yet to budge an inch.

The latest development, as Politico reports, is that the administration has agreed to an overall cut of $33 billion, which is near the number that the House leadership originally proposed (before the Tea Party caucus forced it to go higher). And now the White House appears to be backing away from its demand that no riders be attached to the deal. Press Secretary Jay Carney said there is no veto threat from the White House on a deal that contains ANY riders, as was originally the position.

And here’s what Vice President Biden said on the matter yesterday: “The president and I are not really big on any riders at all. But this is a process which is normal for the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to get into the details. We’ve made it clear what we think are non-starters, both in numbers and riders. But I’m not going to go -- I’m not going to negotiate out here.”

2. This administration, like most modern Democrats in general, have absolutely no fight in them
Worse yet, they're not even going through the motion of fighting anymore.

12. How about this part
" And now the White House appears to be backing away from its demand that no riders be attached to the deal. Press Secretary Jay Carney said there is no veto threat from the White House on a deal that contains ANY riders, as was originally the position."

Sure sounds like "caving" to me!

5. Obama caving? This is news? This is his modus operandi..
He'll cave in to every demand of the gop, tell the 'professional left' to suck it, and then go on the telly and tell us in really pretty words how we're not actually getting fucked, we're merely receiving 'tough love'...

One question. What the fuck happened to the dude on the campaign trail, 'cos this guy is an imposter...

11. The Repukes called for (what?) $34 billion in cuts?
The Teabaggers raised that to an unrealistic number (knowingly). The Democrats cave to $33 billion which is just $1 billion less that what the repukes initially wanted in the first place. It's a child's game. Always ask for more than you know you can have and work your way down to what you really want. That's what the repukes/Teabaggers did. Like Chuck Todd said this morning, "Of course the GOP isn't going to settle because the longer they wait, the more the Democrats give them. Why would they settle?" (paraphrased) SPOT ON. Democrats have ZERO backbone. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. It's ALWAYS the same old shit. The Repuke TAKE. The Democrats GIVE.

14. It seems they are the biggest Republican enablers. Well, they can't act like an opposition party.

Except for meaningless election year campaign rhetoric.

21. The unending Democratic Party race to catch up with the Republican right.

And who will stop it and how?

Sure seems like a hopeless task and waste of time and energy.

It's going on three decades now.

22. I thought the pendulum had begun to swing back..
to the left in 2008 - I was so naive. I have learned a great deal in less than 3 years and sometimes I wish I hadn't. Being a low information citizen has it plus side... :(
