Has insanity become the new normal? |
|
Not too long ago, no politician would have attacked Social Security. It was called the third rail of politics and for good reason. The elderly vote. Even Bush Jr. had to backpedal when he saw that no one was buying the “privitization” crap he was selling.
How quickly the world has changed. Now, there are even Democrats, (not to be confused with what Democrats once were), who are considering "changes" (read cuts) to Social Security. "Changes" are now “on the table.” And why not? It’s not the table from which they eat.
Once Social Security is “on the table,” nothing is “off the table.” Except, of course, military spending and taxing the wealthy. Every single government program, that affects all of us to one degree or another, is under attack.
Somehow, somewhere, those who own and control almost everything have run amok. Yet, very few people are in the streets protesting. And if too many people show up for a protest, the MSM won’t cover it.
Someone is going to have to convince me that a vast number of Americans have not become totally insane, or gone brain dead. If you have another explanation, I’d really like to hear it.

2. Not insanity, but numbness and hopelessness - eventually that will turn to anger... |
|
...and then we'll have a chance.

The freaks have taken over. I've reached the point where it makes me physically sick to pay attention to the news. I've always been a news junkie, but I can't take it anymore. I automatically assume that if the politicians are talking..they're lying. All of them.

You can always tell when a politician is lying. His lips are moving.
Unfortunately, it's no longer a joke. It's a reality.
On edit: I know what you mean about watching, listening to, or reading "news." I've reached the point where I have to just shut down for a few days in order to retain my own sanity.

I can no longer watch the "news". I grew up watching Murrow and Chronkite and Huntley-Brinkley. I still have Rachel but I find myself becoming very angry/disgusted even as she is telling me the truth.
I keep hoping that the "Give them enough rope" fable will come true but6 each day they get nuttier and meaner.
I remember that I was called crazy fifty years ago because I had the audacity and optimism to believe that peace and love could make a better world.
I miss that.

The powers that be have decided that education is a waste of money. After all, why waste dollars educating children? All they really need to know is how to flip a burger and shovel out fries.
