Cote d'ivorie.....gonna be a blood bath, wheres the tomahawks??
Source: amnesty Intl,

Previously a close ally of Laurent Gbagbo, Gen Phillippe Mangou fled his post with his wife and five children and sought refuge at South Africa's embassy.
Mr Gbagbo has refused to concede the presidency since losing November's elections. The move will damage Mr Gbagbo's chances of clinging to power following the disputed poll, as the Army is one of the key levers of power which had remained loyal to him and supported him in his bid to retain the presidency.
Gen Mangou's desertion came as Alassane Ouattara's Republican Forces took the key seaport of San Pedro on Thursday, and extended their zone of control to within close range of the commercial capital after a week of military advances from their northern strongholds.
Mr Ouattara called for all remaining pro-Gbagbo troops to lay down their weapons or join his side as Abidjan braced for battle.
Gunfire and heavy artillery was reported close to one of the city's main military barracks, and in the area where the Presidential Palace is located. It was unclear whether the clashes indicated that Republican Forces had entered the cit

1. No oil, no Tomahawks.
That seems to be the basis of our "getting involved", doesn't it?

4. Gosh, aren't we simplistic this morning.
Yes. Only one thing matters in the whole world and no other factors are ever considered. Now have your cereal.

3. Where is the African alliance?
Where is the support from other nations? Africa is quite content to let its people be butchered nation by nation. Let me know when they decide on a different plan.

5. Who do we bomb? What do we bomb?
Edited on Thu Mar-31-11 12:05 PM by SpartanDem
Gaddfafi was using mosty air power and armor to attack which we have mostly stopped. But we haven't stop all attacks as he's put armor and snipers in cities and that is too dangerous for us to bomb. The Ivory Coast would probably require boots on the ground to be sucessful. But it's better to make snarky apples to oranges comparisons and ignore details that this different for Libya

7. The UN is already intervening in the Ivory Coast, unless you only count missiles as
intervention.

http://www.responsibilitytoprotect.org/index.php/crises/crisis-in-ivory-coast

"In its fourteenth special session held on December 23, 2010, the Human Rights Council passed a Resolution condemning the human rights violations. The UN Security Council passed Resolution 1962 on December 20, 2010 which extended the mandate of UNOCI through June 30, 2011 and provided additional troop and personnel support to the mission. Following a letter from the Secretary-General to the President of the Security Council on the situation in Côte d’Ivoire, the UN Security Council unanimously voted on January 19, 2011 to send an additional 2,000 UNOCI forces in the country. UNOCI has deployed forces to the Hotel du Golf to protect Ouattara and his Government. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon issued condemned all violations of human rights that have occurred since the elections."

The UN has thousands of "boots on the ground" in the Ivory Coast which is something it has refused to commit to doing in Libya. Maybe you would be happier if the UN had gone into Libya with troops rather than planes and missiles. That way the UN involvement would more closely resemble Ivory Coast which you seem to downplay since it doesn't involve missiles.

UN slaps sanctions on Cote d'Ivoire's Gbagbo

The UN Security Council has unanimously approved a resolution demanding an immediate end to the escalating violence in Cote d'Ivoire, as fighters supporting the nation's internationally recognised leader parade through the streets of the capital.

Wednesday's council vote comes five days after France and Nigeria introduced a draft resolution expressing "grave concern" that Cote d'Ivoire could relapse into civil war.

The resolution urges all Ivorian parties to respect the election of Alassane Ouattara as president. It condemns president Laurent Gbagbo's decision not to accept Ouattara's election and urged him "to immediately step aside".

The resolution also slaps a travel ban and asset freeze on Gbagbo, his wife, and three key aides.

Ouattara's military spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that his forces had entered the capital of Yamoussoukro but told The Associated Press news agency that pockets of resistance still existed.

12. Would you support military intervention there?
I'm finding that many who use the argument that we're in Libya but not in country X would be just as upset if we did take action in country X.
