Fukushima from Space

The ocean looks as if were a dirty marina, fouled by gasoline from a careless slob of a boater.

In the satellite image, I wonder what's in all that smoke and stuff?

Today we're learning there is radioactive stuff leaching into the sea from the groundwater.

4. Absolutely. A real shame -- man's hubris.
Radiation in sea off Japan hits new high

Did you see the Before and After images from ABC (Australia)?

You are most welcome, Uncle Joe. I wish this were a pleasant topic -- better still, one covering the good news the thing's under control.

8. Japan Nuclear Power Plants

What AK Rockefeller blog reports: Who Really Needs Nuclear Power? Big Business, That’s Who!

AK Rockefeller was recently informed that Mitsubishi was the driving force behind building the Fukushima power plant, and that they had been warned that its safety could not be guaranteed in the event of a natural disaster. Indeed most of the nuclear facilities in Japan appear to have been built by and for Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Toshiba, GE & Westinghouse. These companies profit not only through their use of the energy, but in the building of the plants themselves. And no doubt, they lobbied the government to help them get the plants built, and they funded the “independent” studies that either fraudulently verified their safety or confirmed that they were unsafe, but were subsequently suppressed.

10. What ALWAYS gets me is this..........
How in the world can 'those people' imagine that they can somehow avoid exposure to the same 'fallout' than the rest of the world? Do they use a different source of air, water and food than the rest of us?

IDIOTS! :banghead: Greedy fucking idiots!

12. Dr. Helen Caldicott explained a lot to me...
A Medical Problem of Vast Dimensions

She also makes clear how the nuclear businesses will not walk away from billions and billions in profits.

Thank you for understanding, drm604.

11. Well, the dirty-marina look can be due to the massive tsunami.
But the smoke and radioactive water are brought to us by the nuclear power industry, Japanese version.

14. What I should have said: The ocean looks polluted.
Here's an oilspill:

Sometimes, smaller ones will wreck hell on an otherwise clean marina.

The pattern that stands out for me is that the attitude shared by TEPCO, GE, the Nuclear Biz, and many powerboaters is: "Who cares?"

I appreciate that you do, damntexdem.

13. So I guess we won't be getting any fish from over there?
On the other hand it will be easier to spot them since they might be glowing in the dark.

15.  One thing we do know: Japan will never be the same.
Tens of thousands dead and missing in the tsunami. Coastal towns for 100 miles wiped out.

Now there are three or four out-of-control nuclear reactors. Worse are the hundreds of tons of spent fuel tossed about by various explosions.

No one knows what the impact will be of Fukushima Daiichi on humanity. For Japan, I believe it will mark the end of an era. Because of who the Japanese people are, I believe they will begin a new era.
