GOP trying to kill Workforce Investment Act -- In other words, screw job-seekers AND employers |
|
Where are the jobs, Speaker Boner? Well, you and your "business loving" crew seem bent on keeping them hidden, I guess.
This is from the website of a local employment board:
The House of Representatives has recommended eliminating federal employment and training programs (Workforce Investment Act: WIA) in its proposed budget.
WIA programs provide services for the unemployed, the underemployed, and for businesses as they try to rebound from the recession. Simply put, this total elimination of funding for WIA would result in the end of the nation's employment and training system during one of the worst economic downturns in American history.
Currently, the WIA authorizes nearly 575 local business-led workforce investments boards that cover all fifty states to oversee and coordinate services through a network of 3,000 One-Stop Career Centers. Over 12,000 businesses across America volunteer their time and energy to lead, coordinate and provide workforce strategies that leverage funding and resources within their local communities -- that's 12,000 businesses.

2. Eliminating WIA funding is a major step toward wage slavery. |
|
The services and resources found at One-Stops are, for many job-seekers, the last hope for keeping a career from disintegrating into bare survival.

Are these morons for real? Kill the WIA? What the hell? Why? Okay... better question - can they actually do it?
