Foes: Vt. health care bill ill-conceived, rushed

By JOHN CURRAN

MONTPELIER, Vt.

A small group of people who oppose a health care bill making its way through the Vermont Legislature took their cause to the capital Thursday, denouncing the measure as ill-conceived and rushed.

About 20 people representing a coalition of groups -- including Green Mountain Patriots and other tea party organizations -- gathered at the Statehouse to lobby lawmakers and show "Sick and Sicker," a film that makes a case against health care administered by the government.

<snip>

Patricia Crocker, an organizer with Green Mountain Patriots, said the event was aimed at highlighting the rush to approve the bill without adequate opportunities for public comment.

<snip>

"These sham hearings, carefully orchestrated by the Shumlin administration and special interest groups with a shared agenda, implemented a tactic used by scheming legislators for decades," said Crocker, an Essex resident. "Name a bill, give citizens some preliminary wording, let them "vent" in a very limited and controlled manner, then change it slightly and pass it quickly."

<snip>

Crocker said the groups represented at the Statehouse event have more than 500 members, but many had to work and couldn't attend.

3. Still, 20 is pretty good for a group of solipsists
I'm surprised that these people can organize any sort of get-together. Note that this was a "coalition" of multiple groups. :D

4. Of course, unlike other states, the 20 already have access to medical care.
Vermont insurance companies have to take all comers, no questions asked. What I don't understand about the baggers is why they don't all head to Somalia to live. No taxes, no government, no problems and you can have all the guns you want.

8. I don't think even they believe their own nonsense
On the one hand, Patricia Crocker whines that the bill was "rushed" into law. Then she concedes that, oh yeah, there was a full and open debate. But there weren't "adequate" opportunities (note the plural) for public comment. Well, okay, there were hearings, but they were a "sham," apparently because they failed to kill the bill because they took all this testimony from experts. Only 20 people showed up, but oh boy, there coulda been 500! If they didn't have to work, that is.

Really, Patricia. Give it a rest. And as for Business Week, which seems to think these nutjobs represent anything except for the incessant voices in their own heads? Please find something real to report on, boys.

have them sign on the line that they give up all rights to any $ when it is their time to collect. Then show them the exit door.
