Judge nixes Florida license plate rules

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A federal judge has ruled as unconstitutional a Florida law that allows the state Legislature to decide whether a group can get a specialty license plate.

Judge John Antoon said Thursday that Florida's specialty license plate law limited the speech of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Antoon also said the law gave the Florida Legislature the ability to decline an application for a specialty license plate based on a group's viewpoint.

A couple of years ago a group tried to get a pro choice license plate to make up for the choose life license plate, and this group was denied.

I was buying a pro-bike group's plate until I found out our repub state was using part of the cash to weaken bike lane resources.

Now I just donate directly to the group and get a BUMPER STICKER.

What I find galling are parents with "Kids First" plates here in Indiana driving way over the speed limit on the interstate.

Someone had a plate here in FL that spoofed the Manatee. I think it said "Tasty" or something...
The state took it back as I recall.

Why not let people customize their own license plate?
Hell there's credit cards out there where you can customize your credit card with your own artwork and photos. Why not your license plate too?
