Please Consider Boycotting GoDaddy!
DU'ers, please forward this link to anyone and everyone you know. I accidentally saw this story on CNN and it is one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. I went to godaddy and made a profile just so I could post something about this. In their community forum there was one thread about this but with only 7 comments and all people were saying they were moving their accounts because of what the founder of godaddy, Bob Parsons did in the killing of this poor elephant. I thought that was an awfully low amount of complaints given the heinous act this man commits and then boasts about it. Well now I know why. My post went off into nowhere land. They are censoring the forum. I'm sure there must be thousands of complaints about this. People like this need to be hurt the only place they obviously have ANY feeling, in their wallets. Here's the link to the story and video, but fair warning, it's extremely graphic. I wish I would have never seen this.

7. I was going to post exactly the same thing.
It's easy to boycott what you don't use or even know what it is.

I wonder, does anyone have an exhaustive list of everything that we are supposed to be boycotting here at DU?

9. What they do:
Web hosting. You buy a domain name (say, google.com) and they provide the servers that hold your web pages, forums, email, etc.

11. Most sub-Saharan African countries offer permits to hunt big game...including elephants.
People may want to yell about the CEO of GoDaddy doing it, but the reality is that people do this every day. The poorer countries in sub-Saharan Africa are largely dependent on the fees generated from those licenses to fund their park systems and other protected habitats. In essence, they sell permits to allow the hunting of animals OUTSIDE of the protected areas, so that they can afford to preserve the animals INSIDE the protected areas.

It's a pretty crappy system, but people aren't exactly rushing forward with open checkbooks to offer them an alternative.

12. When I was researching web providers,
Godaddy didn't really impress me. We went with Startlogic. Except for some minor start-up problems, mostly due to my ignorance at the time, we have had very little problem with them. They are quite helpful with any inquiries we had.

13. GoDaddy is just plain sucky anyway
And now this -- they're creeps, too.

In my experience as a web developer, I'm keenly aware that GoDaddy's hosting service sucks major suckage.

For the same money, you can get service elsewhere that doesn't suck. For a buck or two more, you can get something that's actually good.

Why anybody would be suckered in by GoDaddy, well that just sucks.

Did I mention that they suck?

They're a cheap host, so I've considered using them in the past, but I'm glad I didn't.
