The search for the WikiLeak Vitcims
I have been Googling and searching news sites and researching and trying to find any reports of actual victims of the published Wiki Leaks. I may not be wording it correctly, what I mean are people or groups adversely targeted or endangered because of exposure in the leaks. The groups or individuals who were “Hacked” in retaliation of the censorship of the Wiki Leaks are surely victims, but not because they were exposed or endangered. The leaks from the Vatican exposed an attitude of resentment towards their own abuse victims.
In the international communications between oppressive governments and the U.S. state dept. have revealed discussions of illegal wire taps, torture and Death Squads. The victims are implied.
Michael Moore discovered that he was a victim of a smear campaign by the Bush Administration regarding his movie Fahrenheit 9-11. The attorney for Julian Assange says his client was the victim of a leaked police report.
This letter was published last spring after the helicopter attack video was Wiki Leaked. These young soldiers know who the real victims in all of this scandal are.
Maybe everyone already read this, but I think it bears repeating.
Peace on Earth,
Love,
MJ

WikiLeaks Soldiers Write Open Letter to Victims’ Families• Posted by Jon Bershad and Ethan McCord, Josh Stieber, Two former soldiers who were in the Army unit shown in the now infamous WikiLeaks “Collateral Murder” video have written an open-letter to the families of those hurt and killed in the 2007 incident. The letter, which they say is one of “Reconciliation and Responsibility,” not only apologizes for the events in the video but also claims that there were many more like them in Iraq. It is important to note that neither soldier was in the Apache helicopter shown in the video although one, they claim, can be seen taking an injured child out of the van that was shot. The full letter is below.
“AN OPEN LETTER OF RECONCILIATION & RESPONSIBILITY TO THE IRAQI PEOPLE
From Current and Former Members of the U.S. Military
Peace be with you.
To all of those who were injured or lost loved ones during the July 2007 Baghdad shootings depicted in the “Collateral Murder” Wikileaks video:
We write to you, your family, and your community with awareness that our words and actions can never restore your losses.
We are both soldiers who occupied your neighborhood for 14 months. Ethan McCord pulled your daughter and son from the van, and when doing so, saw the faces of his own children back home. Josh Stieber was in the same company but was not there that day, though he contributed to the your pain, and the pain of your community on many other occasions.
There is no bringing back all that was lost. What we seek is to learn from our mistakes and do everything we can to tell others of our experiences and how the people of the United States need to realize what have done and are doing to you and the people of your country. We humbly ask you what we can do to begin to repair the damage we caused.
We have been speaking to whoever will listen, telling them that what was shown in the Wikileaks video only begins to depict the suffering we have created. From our own experiences, and the experiences of other veterans we have talked to, we know that the acts depicted in this video are everyday occurrences of this war: this is the nature of how U.S.-led wars are carried out in this region.
We acknowledge our part in the deaths and injuries of your loved ones as we tell Americans what we were trained to do and carried out in the name of “god and country”. The soldier in video said that your husband shouldn’t have brought your children to battle, but we are acknowledging our responsibility for bringing the battle to your neighborhood, and to your family. We did unto you what we would not want done to us.
More and more Americans are taking responsibility for what was done in our name. Though we have acted with cold hearts far too many times, we have not forgotten our actions towards you. Our heavy hearts still hold hope that we can restore inside our country the acknowledgment of your humanity, that we were taught to deny.
Our government may ignore you, concerned more with its public image. It has also ignored many veterans who have returned physically injured or mentally troubled by what they saw and did in your country. But the time is long overdue that we say that the value of our nation’s leaders no longer represent us. Our secretary of defense may say the U.S. won’t lose its reputation over this, but we stand and say that our reputation’s importance pales in comparison to our common humanity.
With such pain, friendship might be too much to ask. Please accept our apology, our sorrow, our care, and our dedication to change from the inside out. We are doing what we can to speak out against the wars and military policies responsible for what happened to you and your loved ones. Our hearts are open to hearing how we can take any steps to support you through the pain that we have caused.
Solemnly and Sincerely,
Josh Stieber, former specialist, U.S. Army
Ethan McCord, former specialist, U.S. Army”

1. It is enough to allege that there are victims
And on behalf of these alleged victims, that can justify people calling for summary execution, torturing suspects, and generally defenestrating the Constitution and the system we claim to cherish. I just don't understand why we're letting the pants-wettingest scared little bunnies run the show.

3. Yes, some of us can at least imagine what it must be like. It's called
'empathy', something that Americans don't seem to have much of.

When I saw the interview with those two little children, the little girl looks so traumatized, even still, it broke my heart. They showed their wounds, the physical ones. Such beautiful, innocent children and a father who did care about human beings.

They are after Julian Assange. Has anyone been held accountable for the cowardly murder of the injured journalist and the father of those two beautiful children who was trying to help him?

What kind of country is it that would call a journalist who published the evidence of war crimes, who gave answers which for so long were denied, to the families of those murdered, a 'terrorits' while completely ignoring the murders depicted in the video? It really is monstrous how low we have sunk.

I am glad that those two soldiers managed to hang on to THEIR humanity despite what they have been exposed to.

That is a wonderful letter and I think them for it. That took a lot of courage.

7. The only people being hurt are those who deserve it. War criminals
and elected officials who say one thing to their constituents and allies and/or enemies, but show how untrustworthy they are in private.

Still, no move by this government to act on any of the crimes revealed in the cables. I wonder if they know how loudly that speaks to the world about where we stand on war crimes?

6. If anyone has read any thing about people in danger because of the
latest WLeak, let us know. I care about secret sources and the courage it takes to speak out. It just seems like the Diplomatic core has been embarrassed, liars are exposed. Those seem like obvious positive steps in an agenda of getting the best people to do the jobs.

9. There is a "military only" thread with a poll that calls for executions.
Do military people know something not made public? How are soldiers in danger from the leaks? There are some who say that the Lindy England torture photos, were traitorously exposed, because it made the occupied people even more furious with Americans and more dangerous for soldiers.

15. The Letter Should be read to School Children.
Can people be trained killers and still have remorse? Thank God, this letter seems to prove that they can.
