My father-in-law (POW during WWII) passed away last night
Louis B. Read was a sergeant in the United States Army and a survivor of the Bataan Death March. He died at his Dallas home on March 31, aged 90 years. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, and three grandchildren.

He was also the father of DUer ChickMagic, my wife of 10 years. May their reunion in the afterlife be joyous.

1. am sorry for your loss
Ironically my 95 yr old Dad corresponded with his cousin in Germany for decades before WW2..found out later cousin was in POW camp outside of Chicago where he lived yet they never met. Wonderful generation...we can only hope to be as great.

9. "Our ships and planes had been sunk
We had nothing we could send to rescue them."

My mom still remembers the helplessness she felt. "He must have been so strong, every which way, to survive."

21. Very sorry for the loss of your FIL
Bataan was quite an experience before the death march even got started. And just imagine, he lived to be 90 years old. Those guys were literally skin and bones when they were liberated.

22. They must be dancing tonight. I am so sorry. That was a special
generation. Your father-in-law was a tough man to survive the Bataan Death March. I send my condolences and best wishes to your family tonight. There is never a time that is okay to lose a parent.
