If the Repubs shut down the govt, if granny doesn't get her SSI check, when the disabled no longer
get their medicine and when our children no longer get their educations...do you think middle America will awake from its long slumber and finally stand up and go into the streets and protest the Right Wing/Corporate strangulation of the American dream?

I personally am hoping so. I hope that when the senior's bank accounts run dry they will fight for their right to their social security.

I hope when the caregivers and families of people with disabilities see the pain caused by the cuts proposed by the republicans that they will walk and roll into the streets to cry foul.

I hope when kids no longer have sports or clubs or books or even a teacher with a proper degree in teaching that they refuse the substandard education being offered to this generation of Americans and that they take to the streets with signs and anger and hope.

I hope the college students realize that every single benefit that being an American has offered in the past will no longer be on the table for them. I hope they realize that corporate America has a plan for them and it includes no health insurance, no retirement and not much more than the minimum wage until they are worn out and thrown away.

I hope more than anything, that if the Republicans shut down the government that Americans are going to rise up, take to the streets and take our government back.

What day do the Republicans plan to shut down the govt. and where are we meeting? I am ready.

4. I do too, actually--it's funny that you say that.
My rational brain knows, of course, that millions of people would be hurt by a government shutdown--but the idea of giving all those teabagger-voting fucksticks EXACTLY what they voted for fills me with a kind of shameful glee.

7. Just because you are older doesn't mean you shouldn't fight tooth and nail for your grandkids
Lol....my senior citizen mom would go to the mat for me. She'd probably win too. There are some fierce grannies out there!! But they need to get off the lotto machines and wake up.

20. So you need a little old lady to do your fighting for you?
Never mind she had worked all her life, fought for women's rights, and civil rights, and decent working conditions, never mind a life of fighting, the little old ladies are not entitled to retire because they now have to fight for YOU?

Get off your own damn lazy butt and fight for your grandmother. FOR A CHANGE.

11. Can you share your thoughts on the govt. shut down? I would very much like to hear your perspective.
A shut down won't hurt me immediately but I would have to figure out a way, somehow, to make my mom's house payment's for her if she doesn't get her SSI check. I'm setting aside everything I can (not much) and I am going to up my hours at my second job. So, hopefully that will be enough for my family to make it through a shut down.

8. They'll see that the ultimate rethug goal is to privatize
everything -- SS, roads, fire departments, schools, libraries, etc. But it will be spun that privatizing everything is the solution, preventing such hardships in the future.

10. There are some people in this country
who would step over people dying in the street while complaining about how noisy they are. Until those people are affected personally, they will do nothing about the suffering of others. Sociopath Nation, I'm tellin' ya! Seriesly!

12. these people need to be inconvenienced!
seriously...i'm not talking much. these people would probably freak out if they couldn't make it to their favorite restaurant to eat. they are so spoiled at this point it might not take much to get them to fold.

13. Social Security payments _DO NOT_ stop during a 'government shutdown'.
Essential services continue.

(enrolling new benefit recipients may or may not atop depending on how the shutdown is
specifically handled).

For some perspective see:

15. Social Security checks do not stop coming during a shutdown, or
at least have not in the past. Of course, there are few checks now...just digital transfers to your bank account, for the most part. I'm an SS recipient, and I'm not worried about my monthly pittance.

19. Sane here. My SS checks are automatically transferred
to my checking account . And from information I have seen on the Web and Internet, those who have SS checks automatically credited to their accounts will not be affected.

21. Let republicans shut down the government.
They will shut off income to many of their teabagger fans. I want the money to stop. My blue state elderly will have my democratic governor protecting them by putting up state funds. Alas, I wish the Gov could strip out benefits to retired teabaggers, but given his principles, that won't happen.

22. ssi = supplemental security income, not social security. ssi is not funded from ss taxes,
it's funded from the general budget.

it's a welfare-type program for elderly, disabled & others who didn't earn enough to vest in social security.
