Milwaukee has been called the "Next Detroit", and certainly hthe city as its problems. Segregation, unemployment, crime, poorly performing schools and a State Governor who has declared war on the city's working class are all making it hard on Milwaukee.

Milwaukee also has the largest Democratic base in the State of Wisconsin, The Mitchell Domes, Miller Park, Bradford Beach, the Comet Cafe and hundreds of other reasons to love the city.

Included on this list MUST be the Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM).

The 1994 addition to MAM was designed by Santiago Calatrava http://www.calatrava.com/ and the architecture is spectacular. The "sails" open and close each day. The soaring columns and lakefront setting make it a "gotta see" if in Milwaukee.

And this weekend is "Art in Bloom", an exhibit in which local artists attempt to use floral decorations to complement MAM art pieces. It's the one time of the year photography is allowed inside the museum.
