So far this year a total of 1210 Chevy Volts have been sold
At this rate only 20% of forecast production for the year would be sold. Only 608 units shipped in March.

For those who say they are too expensive last month, Chevy sold 6800 Tahoes (17 mpg) which can cost even more.

We can't bitch about the automakers not making fuel efficient cars when the public treats them like Edsels.

1. Are they in the showrooms now?
Maybe people would like to do a little test driver first?

3. That's a good point they aren't at all dealers yet
I wouldn't buy a car without test driving it either, so I can't fault the public for that.

Still only 1200 even in limited release is disappointing.

2. Chevrolet gave the impression that the Volt is an electric car.
Odd marketing.

5. The name doesn't help either
I like the plug-in hybrid concept but maybe you are right and they overplayed the electric aspect.

9. Toyota played the Prius far differently.
They also built it differently. The Volt is all electric to get started and then defaults to a small engine when the battery has discharged. The result is a limited range. Prius fully embraced the hybrid approach making it swing back and forth according to conditions, including full recharge of the battery with the engine. Consumers like that a lot.

We need a fully electric car.

do just a little research and you'd have an answer. Better have something to wipe that spew up with.

19. Yes, the information is available in that extensive ad for the Volt.
I said it poorly: 35 miles range on the battery before the engine engages.

29. As much as I really would like a vehicle like that
it's still more than twice what I paid for my Yaris which gets 37 - 40 mpg.

I wanted to buy American, but I spent an entire year looking for the best mpg at the best price in 07 & 08 and it was the Yaris.

4. That's the # delivered, not "sold"
There are still 100,000 on the wait list. Chevy has stated that their Volt business model is to start small prodution and ramp up slowly, the scarcity helping to raise the price, keep costs to a minimum, and boost long term sales by increasing buzz. That's SOP for new, hot cars.

7. That's good. I hope this car can outsell those Tahoes
Of course, too small of a start and higher gas prices will just drive people to buy a Prius/other hybrid. Consumers aren't the most patient bunch.

6. The "public" cannot afford the price they charge
Wealthy people who want to look green or want a new toy to show their friends (The Joneses) will buy Volts,.,.the rest of us will buy what we can afford...probably more used cars than anything else..

Then lots of people can apparently afford it, they just aren't buying it...yet.

10. Tahoes fill a specific niche market..
there are some people who will always prefer a BIG vehicle, no matter the price:(

People who bought Tahoes were probably not the same ones who would even be interested in a Volt..

When a hybrid/electric/whatever is priced the same as-lower than a car of similar size/power/styling, they will sell.. not before

16. interested in both
I have a brand new silverado p/u truck.. do I need something that big?? Nope but i choose to drive it and can afford the gas.. I looked at the volt. even test drove the dealership owners.. Nice car but i wanted something bigger especially for 40 grand.. Ive also in the past drove a prius.
If a big assed p/u came out with a decent hybrid that got in the mid 20's or 30 for mhg id but it in an instant.. Id even pay a premium for it.. But 40k for the volt is just to much money

11. (sigh) If they had more they'd ship more.
They will sell ALL 10,000 they plan to make. And as they make more the price will come down, but I guess amortization is something most folks don't understand.

Give people the smallest reason on DU and the bitching begins.

12. Consumer Reports has blasted the Chevy Volt
The same U.S. government that got man to the moon is now teamed with GM to get you to the corner store... for $41,000. But Consumer Reports has blasted the Chevy Volt as a car that "doesn't make any sense... is not particularly efficient as an electric vehicle, not particularly good as a gas vehicle, and a tough sell to the average consumer."

38. Consumer reports is usually full of shit about everything.
When I was young I saw a test they did on electric blenders. They filled them with rocks and ran them until they broke. The winners lasted the longest. Problem was I worked for a company that made the drive hubs that they used as a failure mechanism. All the electric blenders they tested were the same using the same parts just rebranded. Only one company actually manufactured the things. Using statistical scatter is just one of their downfalls. Their car ratings are just plain dumb.

42. Know what the best part is about working at a GM dealer?
Road tests! New AND used. I get to drive them all. Monday, a recent Audi A4 just to see what they are all about. And what was it traded for? Camaro. Winter is over, the big dogs are coming out to play. And the BEST part about the Camaro convertible? Visibility, not like the coupe.

We had a Hennessey 705 in for warranty work on the headlamp led's. If you took all of the emblems and decals off, you'd not know there was a Vortec huffer on the car until you punched it.

43. My neighbor just a got a new Camaro from his insurance company yesterday - as a loaner from a fire
I checked it out, that Chevy looks nice.

True story - he was jumping his battery from his Nissan to another of his cars with jumper cables, let down the hood, went to answer the phone and came back to see a fire that totaled his car - fire engines up and down the street - whoop - whoop - I thought he burned down the house - black smoke up and down the block - then the fire guys let the hood latch down while trying to get hoses on the fire - had to bring out the cutting saws and jaws of life - Zzzzz = ripped up the front of his car as I watched. Total destruction.

Aye - I let him drink all my beer, as a consolation last night. That's what neighbors are for.
