Fed. lawsuit filed over Maine labor mural removal

PORTLAND, Maine

A federal lawsuit has been filed over Maine Gov. Paul LePage's decision to remove a mural about the state's labor history from the Labor Department.

The lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court seeks to confirm the mural's current location, ensure that it's adequately preserved, and ultimately to restore it to the Labor Department building in Augusta.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of six plaintiffs: One organized labor representative, one workplace safety official, three artists and an attorney.

LePage contends the mural depicting labor history overlooks the contributions of entrepreneurs.

2. sorry, entrepreneurs may be the idea guys or be the suppliers
of start-up capital but they are not those who actually produce anything.
we need to re-evaluate how work is rewarded in this country and stop paying those who work least the most and start paying those who work the most more.

3. Wish we had a WPA that paid people to paint murals.
I would love to design and paint one.

5. we need a culture that recognizes the value of
the common man. that celebrates our working together to make our lives and communities better.
then no politician would dare to take down artworks that highlight the struggles of working americans.

4. It is Probably all Busted Up in a Very Damp Cellar
You know LePage's henchmen would not have been inclined to be careful when they took it down.
They probably attacked it with crowbars.
