If good people can shut down KKK rallies in their towns, can't we do this with the likes of Rev,
Jones? If we can shut down that family in KS and drive them from the street corners, can't we fight back against the hatred spewed from these extremists in these readical churches?

There is no room for this divisive hatred in the public square.

1. so if people think what you say is divisive hatred have they the right to shut you down? it goes
both ways. The religiously insane should not determine what other people can and cannot say. There is a large segment of several religious crowds who would like to have an international blasphemy law against anybody who dares speak their mind about religion in general or particular.

8. Well, what about Islamic preachers who instigate others to
engage in terrorist attacks? Are they protected under the 1st Amendment?

Just fyi, one of them is currently on an assassination list on the orders of the POTUS. So far as we know, all he has done is preach.

2. You're welcome to counter-protest, if you like.
However, Jones and company are doing this on church property I believe, so it's not like a march on public streets that you can deny a permit to.

3. They can sure try.
Many people in Topeka, KS have protested the Westboro Baptist Church. Not sure if they still do but they had done it for years.

4. If Jones came to my town and burned a Quran...
...he'd get his ass kicked. Back in 1993, a group of White Supremecists came to my town and we LITERALLY chased them to the city line!

http://dailycensored.com/2010/04/14/nazis-in-la-april-17th-for-huge-rally/

Starting in 1993, NWROC turned its attention to defeating the attempts of the kkk/nazis to expand into the midwest and northeast. NWROC understood that defeating the fascist alternative after the defeat of Operation Rescue was essential. Over the following 5 years, any place the kkk/nazis tried to hold a public recruitment rally, NWROC helped to organize a mass counter-demonstration to shut them down. From New Hope, PA to Springfield, IL to Painesville, OH to Auburn, NY to Indianapolis, IN to Ann Arbor, MI, NWROC organized locally and regionally to smash the fascist recruitment drive. By the end of the 1990′s, the kkk/nazis had called off their northern expansion campaign due to the massive, militant anti-racist counter-protests, spearheaded by NWROC, that followed them everywhere they raised their heads.

6. There is no such thing. Jones is evidence of that.

Religion is the single most provocative thing in human society. That's because religions were created by bellicose, warlike people.

The sooner we're shut of religion, the sooner we may be able to create a reasonably peaceful planet.

7. There's a great org "Not in Our Town". They do stuff like that.
Not In Our Town is a documentary series and campaign that combines public television broadcasts with grassroots events, educational outreach and online activities to help communities battling hate talk to and learn from each other.

The Not In Our Town project was launched in 1995 with a national PBS special that told the story of how citizens of Billings, Montana joined forces to respond to hate crimes in their town. Their story helped create a new “model” for community response to bigotry and intolerance. Not In Our Town and its follow-up programs have been used in hundreds of communities during times of crisis.
