The sleeping giant has stirred - LABOR
Edited on Sun Apr-03-11 01:26 PM by titaniumsalute
For years I have often wondered why labor seemed so asleep. We saw LABOR slightly stir during the 2008 election and they did help some with the sweeping elections. In the 2010 election LABOR fell back asleep for the most part and few Dems/Indies Got Out To Vote. By many slim margins nut jobbers and Teabaggers (one on the same??) did GOTV and it worked for them.

I think the Repukes have already been surprised in some areas with LABOR namely Wisconsin. Some LABOR rallies in PA last week were friggen huge. The Police and Fire Unions have already threatened to withdraw support of Republicans. Ohio LABOR has awaken. Detroit LABOR has awaken.

We're up against millionaires and billionaires in this country. But the good news is there's a lot more volume of voters when it comes to LABOR than people who want to help out the millionaires and billionaires.

I think we will see some really solid BLUE elections next year. REAL BLUE. Not DINOS. I'm going to fight as hard as I fucking can to help save America in 2012. You in?

Here's one example:

10. Maybe, maybe not.
There is a whole new generation of workers who now think that it's the "in" thing to join a union. When I joined my first union in the nineties there weren't all that many members and I didn't know many others who were members of other unions. Now the tide is changing and people are signing their cards as fast as they can.

The next few years will be quite interesting.

12. I hope you are right. It is a dismay to me the anti-union sentiment I encounter from associates I
work with. They have no sense of history regarding labor in this country, and it is hard to fight the right wing media machine

13. I live in a very anti-union area
and work in a place that, even three months ago, was anti-union. Now the employees are speaking out about how they would be better off with a union in our workplace.

I think that this could be a big resurgence. Will it be as big as in the past? No, but it will be a renewed interest in labor. The little guy is tired of getting kicked around.

6. We need to hear more from the CWA
They still have fairly solid job positioning with the telecom companies. Let's hope they don't have to be threatened to feel the need to wake up and join with other unions.

Unions are not a right granted by law. They are an inalienable human right. This world won't change for the better until we unionize all work places and all governments.

7. Great point Gtar...
We are starting to see Unions "sticking up" for other unions. Pre-emptive rallies versus re-active protests. Very refreshing to see.

11. Not only that
but many people who are not in unions are showing their support. I think that the Republicans have vastly underestimated how much support unions have with the American public.
