South Korea is planning to invest $14.6 billion to expand its bullet train network

SEOUL (AFP) – South Korea will expand and upgrade its bullet train network to cut travel time from the capital to major cities to under an hour and a half and slash greenhouse gas emissions, officials said Sunday.

High-speed train services connecting Seoul and its suburbs with the southeastern region will be expanded to cities elsewhere in the country by 2020, the transportation ministry said.

A bullet train ride from Seoul to the southeastern port of Busan, one of the most distant cities from the capital, currently takes about two-hour-and-a-half hours but that time will be dramatically cut by the upgrade in infrastructure. ............(more)

3. My husband looooves the South Korean bullet train! He lands in Seoul,

and is in Busan in 2 1/2 hours ready to work.

Then he comes home, and spends 8 hours getting from JFK to our home in Upstate New York. Sometimes he gets stuck overnight at JFK because of weather conditions.

We wouldn't need a bullet train; just frequent, dependable service on a dedicated track from stations readily accessible from the airports. Right now it can be an hour bus ride just to get from the airport to the train terminal, and there are only one or two trains a day. When the trains are delayed, it's because they are sitting on a side track waiting for a slow freight to roll through.
