PETA at it again.

The animal rights organization PETA came up with another interesting idea last week. In a letter sent to San Francisco’s Mayor Ed Lee, PETA Vice President Tracy Reiman revealed the organization’s intention to change the name of one of the city’s districts, Tenderloin District, to “something not meat-oriented”.

In the letter, PETA wrote “the city deserves a neighborhood named after a delicious cruelty-free food instead of the flesh of an abused animal”. The organization tried to push the city’s leaders to change the name of the neighborhood because its name sounds very meaty, yet no one could explain the historical origin of the name.

The organization suggested non-meaty names such as the Tempeh Districts or Granola Flats to replace the meaty name.

“They’re for animals, right?” lifelong Tenderloin resident Spencina Jackson said of PETA. “I think they should change the name, and while they’re at it do something about all the animal poop on the sidewalk. People might respect it better.”

Peter Field, a tour guide and amateur historian of Tenderloin Districts, explained the origin of the neighborhood’s name, as reported by The Examiner:

7. 'Religious' Fanaticism

Once again the PETA leadership shows itself to be more akin to a fundamentalistic, fanatical religious group.

Changing the name of an area of the city won't help one animal ... but they see everything through the eyes of their particular (and peculiar, in my opinion) philosophical beliefs.

The upside of this kind of nonsense is that most people see it as nonsense and PETA is further discredited.

It's the Fishkill problem once again. When PETA started spending their energy on renaming places that should sound animal friendly,they went to Fishkill,NY a town farther north from NYC. PETA asked the town to change "Fishkill" to "Fish Saves". PETA didn't realize that the suffix "kill" comes from a Dutch word meaning creek. There many places, rivers and streets in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware that have kill in them. (eg: Schuylkill,Fishkill) Somebody should tell them changing names of place won't stop cruelty to animals. What a bunch of idiots! I think its the tofu that's making them lose common sense.
