One reason the vouchers that the republicans want to shove
at everyone is this:
It will take the cost off the tax bill at tax time, the Senior has to pay the costs upfront out of their social security. Most Seniors don't make enough for the voucher to have any effect on their taxes which is often very little anyway.
We bought a new furnace but had no use for the energy tax credit for this reason. You can't reduce what you don't owe because you don't make enough to pay much in taxes at all.

This goes the same for school vouchers. Parents will have to pay the full costs up front and then take the voucher amount off their taxes at tax time. Many parents can't afford to pay the charter/parochial school tuition for a school year for one child, much less more than one, then at tax time write off the amount of the voucher on their taxes..most don't make enough to have it make much of a difference.

Voila! The vouchers are printed, but not used because they won't really save many anything.

1. The Republicans think this will mean they can send their kids to Jesus School for free
Chances are, after vouchers, Jesus School's tuition will go up (because they can) and will still be unaffordable.

And of course, we as a country will have no great scientific minds anymore

2. So, it's not a voucher, it's a tax credit...
and as you point out, tax credits work for the wealthy while screwing the underpaid and indigent.

5. Of course, it's the Republican way.
Why is anyone surprised?

6. Excellent point! shraby. Tax deductions and credits are for the rich
and upper middle class. They don't help the people who need help.

This is simply a red herring, a distraction from the real issues.
