Its great Obama has a lot of rich people to give him money
Because he won't get one cent from me.

I was reading an article about how his campaign is focusing on wealthy people to raise as much as they can, and going away from the 2008 model of raising a lot of money from tons of small donations from common people. I think its a good move.

All the ultra rich people should be very grateful to President Obama for all he has done for them so far. And he should have no problem raising a billion from these kinds of folks.

I'm doing a little bit better in this economy than I was under the Bush disaster, so I can give a little more to help President Obama get re-elected.

49. Apparently you didn't read this:

Senior Democratic aides say the early push among wealthy contributors makes sense given the lack of a primary race to inspire small donors. But DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse said the campaign also will reach out to a broad group of potential contributors, including an aggressive use of Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

“Small donors, grass-roots donors, medium-sized and major donors were all part of the mix in 2008, and they will be again in 2012,” Woodhouse said. “We didn’t rely on one type of donor then, nor will we now.”

19. From reading this thread it's a good thing rich people will give money
since some here won't. Thank Citizens United for that, they upped the ante and it would take a fool to not raise all the money they can to fight the teabaggers and teapubs. And the President is no fool.

31. Sure..
he no longer needs us little people. Fair enough - I can't contribute financially anyway, I'm unemployed and broke as hell. All I've got left is my vote, I'll grudgingly give it to him - lacking a primary challenger... and I don't think there will be a primary challenger.

Like Bush, this President's favorite people seem to be the "haves and the have mores". Unlike Bush, he's not quite dumb enough to come right out and say it, giving credit where credit is due and all that.

Keep in mind though - that despite this economic recovery we're supposed to be in, there are millions like me, there are millions also, who have it far worse. How many in this Nation are on food stamps? Last report I read put the number at above 45 million. What's our unemployment rate? Even the official reports (which are known to be inaccurate) aren't what I'd call optimistic. Consumer confidence? How many foreclosures are expected in the next year? What shape are the state and federal budgets in? How are they addressing their financial difficulties? Shared sacrifice - ain't it great? Of course, there's also the fact that with every passing year the American people have less and less to sacrifice overall... I wonder why that is...

Somehow Obama sees nothing wrong with dealing with snakes like Jeff Immelt (even praising them) - who's corporation pays no taxes and in fact is bleeding tax money from the average American worker. We're moving forward, by ignoring these issues on a large scale. He's (Immelt) actually heading up a "Jobs and competitiveness" program. These are the kinds of people who move massive money around during elections - and by not holding our politicians accountable, whichever side of the fence we or they may be on, we allow this sort of blatant corruption to continue unchecked. Think they're giving that money away for free? Think they don't expect something in return?

So I'll tell you - even if I had a million dollars, I wouldn't give one penny to President Obama. He doesn't need me, he's got plenty of wealthy donors all too eager to lend a hand. May they enjoy the endless circle jerk.

35. He needs us all, but you and I don't have the kind of money
it will take to survive what the teapubbies Citizens United money will buy. I think PBO gave them fair notice, he'll fight dirty too if that's what it's going to take. And good on him for doing so.

36. How is it good?
The wealthy campaign contributors will not be spending their money for nothing. They'll want further tax cuts, definitely going to need an extension on the last ones. They're not suddenly going to start paying taxes. They'll want to do away with a few "insignificant" environmental laws. They'll want assurance that no matter how badly they screw up they will not be held accountable. In return for their money, they will get a great deal.

I don't care who's doing it - it's damned wrong. So he'll play their game and fight dirty... why not instead go on a media campaign against them? Why not start telling Americans the truth about what's going on in this Country and in the halls of power? He'd win hearts and minds even from some of the right if he demonstrated that kind of courage. Instead the budget axe just keeps chopping away at everyone who isn't rich.

I supported President Obama in 2008 because I believed in him and admired him. I'll vote for him in 2012 because I have no other option that would allow me to sleep at night. He's not on my side... but at least he's not quite as terrible as his opponents... we have gone from hope and change, to THIS.

47. How about we pay them?
How about a few billion? I think there are some wealthy philanthropists who would be willing to get on board for that. Maybe I'm wrong - if so, we're even more screwed than I thought we were.

If he attempted to organize that, I'd be one of those cheering the loudest, along with millions of others. How is throwing more dirty money into this pool going to fix anything? I just don't get it at all.

Hope and change... well maybe I'm blind, but I'm just not seeing it. My hope (no matter how many times I'm told it's moronic and naive) is that the President really does have some kind of plan to turn the tables on the crooks. This... this isn't doing that. We can't survive on drinking trickle down piss, you know.

But I do not think I will this time. However, it all depends on who the Republican nominee is. I would spend another $200 to watch Palin go down in flames. It makes good theater.
