We never quite achieved "Democracy" (don't feel too bad, neither did the Romans or Athenians)

We weren't exceptional in any way other than just brute force

Although we did better than the Romans in terms of rights

Every time the world passed us the baton, we failed miserably

We were the last European Sphere Country to give up slavery

We were one of the few European Sphere Countries to try prohibition (and it FAILED)
