Portions of Big Bear highway collapse amid rain damage

Various portions of Highway 330 to Big Bear collapsed after recent rainstorms caused the road to buckle, transportation officials said Monday.

A large portion of the road crumbled Dec. 20 and other sections have been damaged since, prompting the closure, said Caltrans spokesman Darin Cooke.

“State Route 330 will remain closed possibly through the winter due to damage sustained during recent storm events,” said Caltrans spokeswoman Shelli Lombardo.

Geologists surveyed the mountain road Monday to assess the damage and prepare a plan of action, she said...

2. Well maybe a good dose of tax cuts will fix it....

There has been more than enough money collected by the gasoline taxes appropriated for such ventures. The problem is, the state legislature continuously borrows from this fund and uses the money for other things.

4. gasoline tax only covers about 1/3 of road construction & maintenance costs.
now that is nationally maybe CA collect enough but gasoline is highly subsidized in that the tax on gasoline doesn't pay for roads and other taxes "pick up the slack".

If we had to pay the true cost of gasoline most people wouldn't own a car.

5. Wow. Glad I didn't buy a season pass for Bear Mt. this year.
Looks like I'll be giving Wrightwood a few more runs this season.
