2. I remember as a kid in the 50's being told I could go out play in the snow but don't eat it because

of the fallout. It was explained to me as dirty snow. "It doesn't look dirty to me!" Invisible dirty snow and just don't eat it.

5. I don't remember that, but we did have the sirens go off to check them weekly

or monthly or something. Of course they were used for tornado warnings also. Had a sign in my school of where people were supposed to gather (the community) in case of being bombed.

I'm wondering if the Taiwanese are just more pro-active or if they expect different weather conditions from the other countries:

"Boosted by the southward movement of cold air from the Chinese mainland, these northeast winds will push a cloud of strontium and radioactive iodine particles toward Taiwan from a distance of about 2,500 km, and then the weakening high pressure over Taiwan will draw in the fallout, which will engulf the whole island for at least two days from April 6 on."

The government ordered the Meteorological Agency on Monday to disclose its projections on how radioactive emissions will spread from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power station after it was found to be withholding U.N. data from the public since the crisis began.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said he told the agency it "should have made the data public" sooner, along with an adequate explanation. He said the agency refused to release the data because it was a part of reference materials compiled in response to a request from the International Atomic Energy Agency. It feared releasing the data could cause public misunderstanding about radiation threats.

The agency conducted a simulation based on a certain level of radioactive release from the Fukushima plant to gauge how the materials would spread based on weather conditions in the plant's vicinity, Edano said. The projection showed that the potential spread of radioactive materials per 100 sq. km, Edano said.

How long is it before it becomes criminal negligence NOT to release the data? Taiwan seems to be more open about it. Maybe Japan will do better.
