Kick to support YouTube/Video embedding in regular DU posts.
I know, it's just one of the many requests Skinner & EarlG have on their plate so

If you feel passionately about it, show your support here.

2. I would have no problem with it IF the subject line stated
that there was a video in the post.

So many times, especially in the lounge, clicking on an interesting looking thread reveals a LINK to a youtube video. It would be nice to know that in advance. Embedding the video would be a good idea, as I stated though WITH a note in the subject line.

just my 2c

4. Protocol would be the same as (pix heavy)
The preview of a video does not take up much bandwidth. Playing it can be taxing.

5. This. Plus, some indication of the subject matter of the youtube link.
Using auntAgonist's Lounge blind links as an example: "This is my favorite song!!1!!" does not cut it. Please tell me at least the artist first.

12. Good example.
I might not even be in the mood to watch a video. The subject line is somewhat interesting. I click on the thread and it's a blind link to youtube. That can be so frustrating.

10. As a kid (when the song was first big) I thought he was saying "Then I'm gonna"
Like,
"Then I'm gonna give you up
Then I'm gonna let you down
Then I'm gonna run around and
Desert you"

And I just kept thinking "Good Lord this guy is a jerk. Why is she going out with him in the first place?"

16. 'Scuse me while I kiss this guy....
ha!

anyway, I thought the same thing you did about that song...

"Then I'm gonna let you down, and hurt you..."

that's what happened when I listened to songs while half-bombed...I was a bit older than you when it first came out. ;)

8. I would rather have a nonpolitical videos forum.
Kind of like a video lounge.

9. I love having all videos one place so I can ignore them
I hate online videos. I don't want to watch them. I want to read articles. Back before the Videos forum (rather early in Youtube's history, when you look at it) every other post was a link to a youtube video of some alt.press blowhard saying something apparently stirring, and I for one got sick of it.

11. I'm more interested in the facebook link.
But OK. Why not. It would make it easier to embed vid of George Carlin and that can't be bad.

14. Most browsers are unstable enough already without having the possibility of
more memory-leaking Flash in every topic. Videos can be pulled, leaving posts with no content. Videos also require other posters to have speakers/earphones/etc.

We have a Video forum for this very reason.

15. YouTube is ubiquitous throughout the web.
We have a video section because DU code has not been brought up to speed.

18. "YouTube is ubiquitous throughout the web."
Yeah, and it's nice to come somewhere that I don't have to turn JavaScript to avoid it. It's nice to be able to actually READ news for a change, rather than have some talking head spout it for me.

$$$ + speed would be sacrificed.

20. I guess you have an answer here Skinner/EarlG -
Not much interest. I think it's important enough not to leave it to DU 3.0, worth putting in a spaghetti tag, but it doesn't seem to ignite too many here at the moment.

21. Do you have to click to start a youtube video in all browsers?
I know I do with my browser, but I also know that I have had experiences with videos that started up all by themselves in some webpages. I can't remember if any of them were youtube, though, or what browsers I was using.

I would NOT want it if there were no way to keep the video from starting. Imagine following a thread and having the damned video go off every time you clicked on it.
