Status of the VT healthcare Bill at this moment: It has already passed the senate and the House.
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 09:18 PM by Cal33
VT's Republican governor will not veto the bill, but he will not sign it
either. As I understand the situation, Governor Douglas is simply allowing
the bill to become law by his not vetoing it. The people of VT are
overwhelmingly for the bill, and Douglas was gracious enough not to veto it.

VT is writing up the Single-Payer Healthcare system right now. I think
VT is the first state to be successfully doing it.

May the great majority of the other 49 states follow suit. And, in time,
when even the diehard Southern States see the real benefits it brings to
the people of America, they too will realize that they had been deceived
by the greed of the health insurance companies all thise many decades.

Health Insurance companies may become largely a thing of the past. And
good riddance to bad rubbish!

4. And VT has only about half a million people. It's a rather empty
state. Why not make a try for it. Of course, some other states
may follow suit before you can say "Jack Rabbit." Make sure
you have a job waiting for you before leaving. Good luck!

5. With only half a million people in the state there is no overcrowding.
Where therei's plenty of room, ghettos will be hard to find.

9. I hope all goes well and congratulations are in order! If not for Arnold, California
would have had single payer years ago. Twice our state legislatures passed a single payer bill and twice Arnold vetoed it. Tirelessly advocated by State Senator Sheila Kuehl (Zelda for all you old Dobie Gillis fans) who was termed out, and now reintroduced by State Senator Mark Leno.

Unfortunately for Californians, during the campaign and now, Jerry Brown has given no indication whether or not he will sign it.

14. That's what they say but when asked directly about single payer, he refused to answer
and he's on board for some horrific budget cuts to social services.

13. Douglas vetoed it back when he was governor. Shumlin is
the new governor, is a Democrat, and very much in favor of single payer.

http://www.boston.com/news/local/vermont/articles/2011/03/24/vt_house_resumes_debate_on_health_care_bill/

Gov. Peter Shumlin, who made single-payer health care a centerpiece of his gubernatorial campaign last year, also praised the legislation. He said it would make Vermont "the first state in the country to make the first substantive step to deliver a health care system where health care will be a right and not a privilege, where health care will follow the individual, not be a requirement of the employer, and where we'll have an affordable system that contains costs."

Lookin' good, Vermont!
Hope it won't be long before we follow your lead.

the Senate has not passed the legislation yet.
