New Law Bans Throwing Electronics In Trash
New Law Bans Throwing Electronics In Trash

(Indianapolis) -- At the start of every year, new laws take effect all over the country.
Here in Indiana, it will be illegal to throw away electronics into trash that's headed to a landfill or an incinerator.

Those electronics will be able to be recycled in Marion County through the city of Indianapolis' ToxDrop program as part of a new e-cycle program.

The law was enacted to prevent hazardous materials such as lead and mercury that might be in some electronics from being released into groundwater by being buried in a landfill.

6. And now, they will be sent to India and Bangladesh and will poison people when they chop them up...

According to EPA in 2007 only about 16% of electronics were recycled in the US. Of these 16 %, 50 to 80% are exported to poorer countries for recycling. In most of these countries the technology to recycle electronic equipment properly simply is not there. Recycling is done in the most primitive manner without any consideration for the safety of the worker and the environment... http://hubpages.com/hub/Computer-Recycling-in-Poor-Counties
