Letters and gifts pour in from around the world for abused pit bull dumped in a trash chute - pics

A 1-year-old pit bull nicknamed Patrick sits Tuesday, April 5, 2011, next to flowers sent by a supporter in Alaska as he recovers at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, N.J. , after being found starved and dumped in a trash chute. Kisha Curtis, 27, of Newark pleaded not guilty to animal abuse charges. Authorities believe Curtis tied the dog to a railing in her Newark apartment building and left the state for more than a week. Letters and donations have poured in from the around the world in support of Patrick.

1. I hope she gets jail time
If she will do this to an animal she will do it to a child.

The little fella is a fighter, I hope when he gets well he goes to a loving forever home.

Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 08:41 PM by a la izquierda
you can read stories about other horrific acts of cruelty, like O Caozinho Burne, the little baby dog burned with hot oil in Brazil. Or Braveheart the dog, starved to near death in Kentucky, now being treated in Wisconsin. Or Tad the abandoned dog in Texas. They stories rip your heart out.

Also, if you go to The Patrick Miracle on facebook, you can get updates on his progress.

11. It's A Boost To Those Caring For Him
It must be depressing to see such suffering close up so when so many send flowers and cards it must make them feel like there are people out there who do care, who adore all critters and admire them for the hard work they do. It can't be easy.

45. I think the dogs story touched a lot of people. They relate to feeling
dumped down a trash chute. This outpouring is the result. It is sad and wonderful at the same time.

My boxer approached a magnolia blossom that had freshly fallen to the ground with mixture of curiosity and fascination. I dare say he appreciated it. Just today one of the pups sniffed and then put a live daffodil blossom in her mouth and decided both not to eat it and not to chew it. A kind of respect was formed there. ;-)

They definitely understand energy.

7. Patrick sure is looking a lot better..
it's amazing he's survived. I'm sure they've been flooded with offers to adopt him. I hope he finds a great forever home.

This Kisha Curtis, if found guilty, needs to be punished to the fullest extent of the law..which unfortunately, probably won't mean much, because animal abuse laws in this country are woefully inadequate.

14. According to some on DU, as a pit bull, he should have just been killed.
I believe "exterminated" is the word many of them use. Nice to see the support for an abused animal regardless of his/her breed. He looks to be doing so much better, so kudos to the folks caring for him.

That has nothing to do with the dogs and everything to do about humans. Many shelters immediately euthanize Pit Bulls. It's the fucking psychopaths that abuse them that should be euthanized.

Ok, link to people on DU saying all pit bulls should be killed. You brought it up, so the burden of proof is on you. Otherwise, you are just calling out DU'ers and that's against the DU rules. Broad-based bashing isn't allowed, either.

That's the town next to where I grew up.

Poor poor doggy. He's already so loved. I hope he can find an appropriate home as he will need lots of TLC and understanding. Abused pets may be unpredictable, so he shouldn't be placed with other pets or animals. Just a loving and caring adult(s) who will put him first and heaps loads of attention on him.

by failing to provide food and water, the prosecutor's office said. Those carry a maximum jail sentence of 18 months and a fine of up to $10,000, but the prosecutor's office still has to determine whether those charges will be presented to a grand jury."

Curtis' mother was in court Thursday and said her daughter was in Albany, N.Y., when the dog was believed to have been abused.

"Somebody gave her that dog but she couldn't take care of it, so she tied it up outside hoping somebody else could take it," Tammie Curtis said. Somebody took that dog and did whatever they did to it."

http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/local&id=8044955&rss=rss-wpvi-article-8044955

Yeah, her daughter tied the poor dog up and she must have hoped that "somebody" would notice that Patrick was waiting for "somebody" to take him, by breaking into her hi-rise apartment, going out to the balcony and take him away, and that "somebody" did just that to Patrick while her daughter was away, and somehow also managed to nearly starve him to death within around a week?!?

:wtf:

Apparently Ms. Curtis could not afford to feed Patrick, but had enough money to post $1000.00 in bail.

Unfortunately, this little guy is the tip of the
iceberg, as far as animal abuse goes.
He is one of the fortunate ones- so many still are suffering-
unable to let anyone know.

Animal abusers are the worst of humanity in my book.
They certainly should not be allowed to have children, or Fur People to care for.

58. You're not kidding.
My husband rescued our Viszla mix from the side of the road. The dog was about 7 months old, abandoned, manged, and starved. We had just lost our beloved Sheltie a week earlier and were not looking for a new dog. Well, it was about 95 degrees and ready to storm; my husband could not, in good conscience, leave the puppy there. So he opened the back door to the car and the puppy sat there for a minute, looked at my husband, and apparently thought "well, anything is better than this!" $500 on vet treatment and 5 years later, and that dog is STILL a daddy's boy.

A Gift From Patrick Day (weekend) http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=176072132442069 which urges all the Patrick fans to go to their local shelters this next weekend. It'll be one month since Patrick was found. Go out and purchase anything ~ a bag or can of food, a toy ~ OR take some old towels/blankets. It doesn't have to cost you anything but money is always welcomed. Think about telling his story in an attached note or card and just say, "THIS IS A GIFT FROM PATRICK."

do something for Patrick and this is a way to help other animals in his name since he's got everything he needs now. I hope all the people who apply to adopt him and don't get him will adopt another one instead, too.

Oh, and it's been five days since my new dog came home; I know you'll be happy to know that she's doing just great. It's almost as if she's been here forever already. The two dogs adore each other, they play all day long and sleep together (usually on my bed, lol) at night. She's not only one of the sweetest dogs ever, but she's smart, too. She's already learned several hand signal commands. She's wonderful and we love her very much!

61. exactly.
It took longer than a week for that poor puppy to end up in that condition.

My guess is she deliberately intended to starve him to death. Left for a week so she wouldn't have to be bothered with watching or be bothered by the poor puppy's likely begging for food and water.

Came home after she figured he was dead and dumped his little body down the trash chute. Where that fucking bitch belongs. :grr:

Thank god for the worker who spotted Patrick's movement and investigated and set in motion saving his life and getting that disgusting bitch caught.

Who, by the way, doesn't look to me like *she's* missed any meals lately. :grr: :grr: :grr:
