Gotta admit... I am depressed
So when Obama won in 08 I was elated until about 9 PM Pacific time when it hit me that even though he got 67 million votes, 59 million people voted for McCain/Palin. Or roughly a net loss of 1 million who voted for Shrub in 2004.

Now we have a complete fucking asshole elected in Wisconsin and even after all of his antics we get down to a referendum where plus or minus a few thousand votes, there is either have a confirmation of his policies or a narrow win.

So it comes down to the fact that Republicans have to be major incompetent assholes to possibly lose an election. How is this a sustainable long term solution?

the vote total for Kloppenburg is more than the number of signatures needed to recall Walker

19. Generally speaking, state Supreme Court elections are not high turnout
therefore it shows there are enough Dems who will go to the effort of voting in this election, chances are they'd sign a recall petition too.

11. I have my doubts about that.
As I posted in another thread: Here is my disheartened and disheartening take on a loss. If Democrats in Wisconsin - in that super charged atmosphere - can't win this then it's over there. The recall efforts will fail and Walker will be in a position to say, correctly for this first time since this whole mess started, that the people of Wisconsin are more with him than we'd like to believe.

This failure will be all over Fake News and Walker will be as well. Any attempt to spin it in our favor will be looked upon for what it will be: rationalization posing as "moral victory". The reality will be that all of what has transpired in Wisconsin will be for nothing. There is NO WAY Democrats should have lost this election. The cry that it was "closer than it would normally have been" is a hollow one. If Prosser wins, it is over in Wisconsin.

Geez, was it depressing to post this.

should be talking to Bro. Koch as if was chatting with his old lady on the phone. People see through him now. Don't worry about the recalls. In Ohio we have the referendum process to restore collective bargaining http://www.SherrodBrown.com/volunteer/

ain't necessarily gonna give us wins pretty much anywhere; that's for sure.

Folks shout that they don't want to work for him, or donate to him or even vote for him....
and they write about it over and over and over again....and so I say, then so be it,
that's their American given right, and they can welcome the new America as it may end up as Nov 2012...election day...when the teabaggers will rejoice, and where as a progressive,
putting one's head in between one's legs to kiss one's ass goodbye will
feel tolerable for the first 30 seconds (after having worked hard at getting rid of this President); and then pure unadulterated reality will set in. Now, that will be something to see.

13. Obama's support for labor is so pitifully small that it would not
fit in a thimble.

If you want to know why Obama is so unpopular, read Matt Taibbi's Griftopia. Obama played along with the biggest hoist of all history and has done nothing to prosecute the thieves. That is why Obama is so unpopular.

Sooner or later, the American people will realize that they have been robbed and that some of Obama's closest aides were in on it. When that happens, we may finally get some change, but Obama will not be the one to thank for it.

Obama could be doing things very differently. He could change history. He is not doing it. Please read Matt Taibbi's Griftopia so that you understand what happened in the bail-out and then tell Obama what you think.

21. So because he didn't interfere in a state labor issue
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 01:21 AM by Arkana
suddenly he's anti-labor?

Look at what the labor movement in Wisconsin is accomplishing. They're scaring the hell out of the GOP--so much so that the spin machine has gone into fifth gear and it's showing signs of burning out. They've constructed a massive recall effort encompassing 8 GOP state senators and the governor himself. Public opinion is OVERWHELMINGLY on their side.

Now tell me with a straight face that they could have accomplished all this if they were constantly being lambasted by the (non-Fox) media as "Obama's puppets" because the President had set up camp in front of the Wisconsin statehouse. Yeah, sure, he'll walk that picket line! Oh, almost forgot the detail of 20 Secret Service agents that follow him everywhere. Also, gotta scope the site of the protest first to study entrances, exits, and potential spots for would-be assassins. Position snipers on the roofs.

Oh, right--gotta set up metal detectors too! Wouldn't be good if someone William McKinley'd Obama, would it? Just walked up to him to shake his hand, then popping him twice in the stomach.

How is it a protest now and not an OFA rally? How is the movement still grassroots if the President gets involved? There is no room for spontaneity. No room for ANYTHING as long as Obama is there, because he sucks the air out of every room he's in.

And you tell me what's harder for the RW media to demonize--the President, or thousands of pissed-off teachers, cops, and firefighters?

24. Read the Matt Taibbi book and then post.
Obama could support labor in numerous ways. For one thing, he could have more pro-labor aides in his administration, more pro-labor economic advisers, more pro-labor lawyers in the Justice Department. It isn't about whether Obama goes to Wisconsin.

It's about who he nominated as Secretary of the Treasury, how shabbily he treats Elizabeth Warren, how much deference he gives to Wall Street, the fact that he hired a Morgan Stanley man as his chief of staff, how he is subservient to business and to wealthy Republicans.

It's about how he has done so little to help the victims of the foreclosure and bank fraud and theft.

Then there is a myriad of human rights issues and constitutional issues on which Obama has failed the American people.

42. She should be out front in the public relations of his administration.
She is the smartest, most pro-ordinary-person member of his administration. She is a great communicator. He should have her on TV and doing his public relations for him. Instead, he has all the corporate faces, draft-dodger Immelt and Wall Street magnate Daley. They represent the Obama administration to those of us who observe these things.

Elizabeth Warren and her views are what Obama should prioritize. He isn't. He begrudgingly appointed her and her position is very precarious.

The whole world is watching Obama and the sight is not pretty.

Really? What proof do you have of this other than your own bias?

And if Elizabeth Warren wanted to be more active and "out-front", she'd BE more active. She'd assert herself more.

41. While it seems public opinion is on our side in WI, I too am depressed
about this vote. If, as you say, public opinion is OVERWHEMINGLY on out side, and this is the biggest proxy fight on the ballot, why are we maybe going to squeek out a win (or lose) by a few hundred votes out of 1.5 million cast? Either the public is with us and just don't bother to vote (depressing) or public opinion is evenly split even after all that has been done in/to WI (more depressing).

Imagine what you could have done with two.

And a state SC election is not exactly big-ticket, even if its ramifications are. Keep your eyes on the recall efforts, regardless of whether Kloppenburg wins or loses.

16. Obama ain't the one causing me to have these feelings
In fact I have many issues with those slamming him for every ill in America. My concern is that a Democrat has to be 10x better than a Puke just to be even.

Imagine if a Democrat drove the Country into the depths of Bush and only 1 and 1/2 percent of that persons supporters bailed? For fucks sake Obama will see a greater drop (percentage wise) than bush did.

25. Yes they are a HUGE part of the problem
I guess I have (had) a higher level of expectations from the general public. Now I am trying to figure out how to talk my kids into attending Universities outside of the U.S. Becuase when I see results like this I am just shocked at how stupidity can compete 50/50 with logic.

At some point I (we) are the stupid fucks who just don't get it. And for my first published criticism of Obama, we either have to give up, or start punching the dumb shits between the eyes. Because logic ain't working.

29. The logic ain't getting out there.....
That's exactly what the media doesn't do.

Hell, there I was watching Obama's speech on the Job Numbers last week,
and 2 minutes in, MSNBC talks over the President to let me know they
will "monitor" what he's saying, and let us know if there is any news.

I'm thinking, WTF?

So in otherwords, even folks who complaint that the President ain't saying enough,
or doing enough, or whatever, don't even fucking realize that it really ain't up to
him....cause they took away his Bully pulpit shortly after the election. They decide
what's logic...and today, logic is that Paul Tooth Canal Ryan is a fucking hero
for proposing to privatize Medicare over the next 10 years.

That's what we get.

That's why it ain't about principles so much....
it's way beyond that. Sadly.:(

Hell, you would be hard pressed to find me posting anything negative about Obama. In fact if you talked to people who know me you would be hard pressed to find and instance of me saying anything negative about him.

The issue is not Obama, this issue is that any Democrat having a chance to beat a Republican unless the Repbub is a total loser.

Note: I am just making my statements based upon a Democrat vs Republican. When it comes down to a Liberal versus a Republican it is not even a contest that is winnable in the majority of elections.

You've got the signatures to recall Hopper and Kapanke.

If those and a couple others like them are successful, you can handcuff Walker long enough to attempt a recall election.
