Court Race May Come Down to the Town of Lake Mills (Updated)
Randy Radtke
Managing Editor

With fewer than 200 votes separating incumbent Supreme Court Justice David Prosser and his challenger assistant attorney general JoAnne Kloppenburg, the election outcome could be affected by the Town of Lake Mills where all the votes have not yet been counted.

Because of problems with its tally seats, the township has not officially reported any vote tallies as of yet to Jefferson County and that means that between 700 and 760 votes have not been entered in the statewide totals for a seat on the state's highest court.

Election officials in the township were expected to meet at 8:30 a.m. this morning to finish counting 24 paper ballots that have not yet been counted, make the necessary correction to their tally sheets and then report their vote totals to the County Clerk's office at the courthouse. But that meeting did not occur because of a lack of a quorum of the town's Board of Canvassers. A new meeting time has been officially posted by town officials and is now scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m.

1. Should that be tally seats or tally sheets? If it's tally seats,
what are those?

3. I have about 11:30 now, It shouldn't take them long to count
24 ballots and get the tallies entered so I would think they should be posted by at the very latest at 12:30.

That's just the AP being slow to update. All Milwaukee votes are in...

The info he is getting it from is her tweet that I just posted. She clearly says "Milwaukee Co Election commission" and he somehow misinterpreted that as "Dane County"

18. Did they just come in, like another thread said?
If so, they should be posting the numbers with an increased lead for K.

Even the one conservative county shouldn't give Prosser enough.

13. The little town I used to call my home.
Kind of backwards in some respects, but I found it charming. Only had a few thousand people as I recall. I loved it because it was midway between Madison and Milwaukee. Two very different, but very fun cities. I miss Wisconsin.

14. If I'm reading this correctly
Prosser needs about 65% of the Lake Mills vote to win, perhaps a tad less. That's gonna be difficult.

But from what everyone is reporting, Prosser will not pick up enough votes there to pass Kloppenburg. She will win, pending the recount of course.

"JS Online: Lake Mills results expected at 1pm. "About 220 votes were cast in Town of Lake Mills - apparently not enough for Justice Dave Prosser to make up the votes he would need to defeat challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg."

What? I thought there were 760 votes?

35. so, Unofficially -JoAnne WINS --Let it be............

The meeting was publicly noticed and it was her understanding that members of the public were on site in the Town of Lake Mills watching the vote counting.

Hintzmann said the township did not complete its work Tuesday because the process of counting both write-in ballots and paper ballots was not done properly. She did not provide details on what steps were not followed correctly.

Some paper ballots were used in the township because officials ran out of official ballots.

After the township’s board of canvassers finishes its work, the results will be announced by the Jefferson County Clerk.

Jefferson County’s board of canvassers will meet Thursday to certify the vote, Hintzmann said.
