Grifting: It's a Family Affair
from thinkprogress:

Bristol Palin’s Nonprofit Paid Her Seven Times What It Spent On Actual Teen Pregnancy Prevention

In 2009, Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol joined a teen pregnancy prevention nonprofit called the Candie’s Foundation. Today, the Associated Press reported that the Candie’s Foundation released its 2009 tax information, revealing that Bristol was paid a salary of $262,500.

But a closer examination of the tax form by ThinkProgress shows that the group disbursed only $35,000 in grants to actual teen pregnancy health and counseling clinics: $25,000 to the Mt. Sinai Adolescent Health Center and $10,000 to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. View a screenshot of Bristol’s exorbitant salary below:

Thus, the nonprofit paid Bristol over seven times what it paid to teen pregnancy prevention groups. In addition, the Candie’s Foundation spent $165,000 on advertising, including this spot with Bristol and “The Situation” of MTV’s Jersey Shore: http://thinkprogress.org/2011/04/05/bristol-palin-profiteer-teen-pregnancy/

3. I'd like to know where this group's money really comes from.
I went to the website but the supporters listed were other nonprofits. Looks very odd. I used to research and write grants. The nonprofit's donor list should be transparent. (I assume this is a nonprofit, but maybe it isn't. I also assume that it is calling this gift to Bristol Palin a grant.)

My reaction is that so much really positive education and encouragement of young people who face difficult decisions could be done with this money.

I do not favor teen pregnancy. Who does?

I do not think that teenagers should be sexually active. These are important issues, but placing a prosperous, respected unwed mother like Bristol Palin up as a role model for at-risk teenaged girls is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of.

4. That is so sick - -
What's the average anuual salary in this country ? $30 thou - $50 thou - and this pitiful Palin gets $260 thou - for what? Even if she was trying to be a revers roll model (as in "don't do whay I did") the girls she's talking to have to be sayin' "we'll she didin't do too bad, she got a kid, parent's support, and a big cash job, too."

Sooo wrong -the agency gave $35 thou to acutally combat teen pregancy and $260 thou to Palin - I feel really bad for the poor dupes who donated to that agency thinking they's be helping girls !!!!
