Clinton to visit Japan late next week
WASHINGTON —

The U.S. government is making final arrangements for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to visit Tokyo late next week, with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation in addressing the disaster in Japan, U.S. diplomatic sources said Wednesday.

Washington is exploring the possibility of talks between Clinton and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan as well as Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto during her stay in Tokyo, the sources said.

In the meetings, if realized, Clinton is expected to discuss how to deal with the nuclear crisis and reconstruction efforts, they said, adding she will likely say that Washington will extend full support to Japan as its ally.

2. Obama has already told the Japanese Emperor
that the US will pledge full support.

From the US Embassy's web site:

"In a letter from President Obama to the Emperor of Japan, the President said: “The United States has put all available means of support at Japan’s disposal, and countless American citizens and organizations have also reached out to help. I speak for all Americans in expressing admiration for the courage, strength, and determination with which the people of Japan are responding to this crisis. I have every confidence that Japan will rebound from this tragedy even stronger than before and set an example for other nations through your resilience. As the people of Japan recover and rebuild, the United States will stand steadfast by your side as a friend, partner, and ally.”
