Taxes are the price we pay for being able to be rich free and alive all at the same time.. |
|
I think that quote is from an episode of West Wing but I think we need to start reminding the Teabaggers and Repuglicans of this fact every chance we get.

1. I've often thought about getting the license plate "TAXPAYR" just to annoy them. |

I always tell conservatives and borderline-bagger work-friends: taxes are your American greens fees.
You have to pay to maintain the playing field.

4. Oliver Wendell Holmes had a similar quote - "Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society." |
|
And I'd gladly pay much more if we got healthcare out of it like many other civilized societies. I broke my wrist in February, and have gotten no less than 10 different bills for it so far, to the point that it's hard to keep track of who I have or haven't paid yet and what services they're actually charging me for. It's just an annoyance for me. I can't even imagine what anger and frustration someone with a serious chronic illness has to face, staring down an exponentially increased amount of these bills.

5. Let's take a minute to break down the "it's our money" meme |
|
Yeah, in a sense tax money is our money, but only because the government is us. Tax money is the government's money.
I'm having trouble making this simple enough for teabaggers. We all chip in to buy things we couldn't buy for ourselves like roads and security. If we chip in enough, we can splurge on things like paying someone to prevent poisin food and water.
Maybe I need to work on a board game, where unlike Monopoly, there is no single winner, we all win or lose depending on how we pool our resources or fail to. If that's too tricky, maybe flash cards.

6. They would always lose at that game because the winning concept |
|
is beyond their mental grasp.
It's like the computer in War Games figuring out that nuclear war was unwinnable by running simulations only the computer is smarter than these greedy 2 year olds.

7. Taxes are also the price we pay to go to war against people who haven't attacked us. |
|
I'd prefer to not have to pay those taxes.
