When Obama was born, Hawaii was not the tourist mecca it is today, and small town newspapers were STARVED for news... click the link & look at the stuff my hometown paper used to print.. even down tot the addresses of people who were in the hospital...just in case you wanted to drop off some food, or send a card.. or maybe even rob the place:rofl:

4. In the 1980's I worked for a lady who was

from a small Delta community here in MS. Although she had moved away from there years before, she still had their little newspaper mailed to her. Sometimes she would bring the papers to work and we would have a good laugh at some of the stories. They published all sorts of things that most people would consider personal. If someone had visitors in town, they would write an article telling who it was and why they were there. If someone bought a new car, there would be an article about what color it was and what kind of options were on the car. Marriage announcements were lengthy articles, telling who the parents were and where they were from and what religion they professed. I could go on and on. I learned things about the people in that community that I would never know about my own neighbors.

5. hell, where I live they did that well into the '90's- for free.

Even if kids were born at home. I still have a copy of my oldest child's birth announcement('83) from the paper. Our local state rep. who lived in the town next to us, made it a habit to cut out the notices, slip them into envelopes with his picture on the outside and little notes saying he was glad to have a new constituent.
